Hello, Readers!
Let’s discuss why college is the award-winning place of life long stories. Your experience in college will teach you more than four years ever did in high school. As you panic your way to success, remember somethings just happen. All the emotions you feel and the mistakes you make have been made by plenty. College is the place to make them before entering the real world. Trust me, I lived, I learned, and now I can laugh about my easy mistakes. In honor of this upcoming orientation season, here are some of the most common emotions of freshmen year.1. The pure joy of entering college
This emotion is usually experienced by the incoming freshman. You remember that feeling after mom and dad dropped you off? That is the one I’m talking about! You have this pure rush of joy and happiness to move in and unpack. You finally can be independent and not adhere to curfews or parental hovering. You're excited to meet new people and maybe be healthy, and get straight A’s, but this is all before reality hits. Don’t be embarrassed, this is a normal first emotion.
2. Your first hangover
After about maybe six hours after moving in there, of course, are the ‘Welcome Back” parties. These parties consistent of nothing but people, liquor and more liquor. As soon as you arrive you probably receive the infamous Solo red cup and chug down that fruity juice drink. Five cups later you swear you didn’t know there was alcohol (because you couldn’t taste it) and just want to lay down. After finally stumbling back to that dorm bed you awake the next morning with the worst headache of life. My advice to you is to reach for that special medicine kit your mother probably made and hydrate, it's going to be a long day.
3. First F
A college has its ups and downs but to start the whole chain you have to receive your first F (cue scary noise). This can happen at any point in your college career. You swore you studied for that test. Even though you went out the night before that 8 a.m. test, you were good! Let’s not forget the cram you did before you went out, that was sure to get you an A+ right...right?! Let this be a lesson to you to study first and party later. There will always be parties but you can’t retake that test.
4. So you don’t feel the same?
Awe your first college crush. He/She is probably the person in your class that you can’t stop staring at. You make all attempts to walk in when they do or even sit near them. Of course, you're smitten and you basically beg them to study with you in the library. After a couple study dates and café meals, you feel it’s serious. Turns out they are doing the same thing every other day with someone else. Your heart is broken, but cheer up! There are plenty of fish in the college sea. There are also more ways to be more direct with your approach, remember that as well.
5. Who’s Spreading Rumors about me?
Let’s talk about college drama. You thought word got around in high school, PLEASE, drama in college moves 10 times faster. You never know who is roommates or suite mates with whom. Once the rumor is moving there is no stopping it. How can you avoid this? I honestly can’t tell you. College is about the experience and bad things happen. Remember why you are in college, don’t let this drama distract you. Choose your friends wisely.
6. CAN I JUST GRADUATE ALREADY?!
If you are like me, you were ready to leave after sophomore year. Parties, gym jams, and all around college was no longer exciting. This emotion especially kicks in after you have had it with the college struggle. The form of struggle involves being so broke you can’t even afford to look in your bank account. Since you just asked your parents for money last week there is no way they are going to send any. This struggle involves eating ramen noodles at least six times a week because all other food options are closed. On the academic side of the struggle, you can’t stomach the thought of taking another test. Seriously you don’t know which is scarier to check your bank account or blackboard. It gets to the point one day you just stay in the bed and avoid life.
