An emotional support animal is when an animal such as dog presents comfort to a person with emotional and mental disabilities.
2.What qualifies an animal as an emotional support animal?
Typically when your personal pet gives you comfort doctors will consider this an emotional support dog but only when you have been previously diagnosed with major depressive disorder, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, etc. You will also need to be diagnosed and given the consideration from a licensed counselor.
3. What is it like living with an emotional support animal?
Having an emotional support animal is the best thing that I've ever personally experienced. My support animal is a Patterdale Terrier that is a rescue dog from one of my local shelters. She is a very protective dog that knows how my emotions work and when I feel scared.
4. The difference between an emotional support animal and a service dog:
They don't have any registration and paperwork to qualify them.
They can be helpful to multiple people (it's suggested that they have one true owner).
Dogs are there for comfort and to calm the emotions of an individual.
