Winter is upon us, and it is such a bittersweet time. Pack away those beloved sundresses and bring out the much missed sweaters and boots again.
Winter is a fun and beautiful time of year... that is, until you are in college and have to trek through that horrid snow to get to classes every day. Everyone is excited as signs of winter begin approaching, but then the dead of winter hits and we wish we could take back all of those times we were begging for snow. There are stages of this seasonal depression that happen over the course of the winter.
1. Abandonment
Don't leave us, fall. You're the perfect mixture of all the best parts of each season, and we hate when you leave.
2. Excitement
We think we can handle it. We think we're ready for that pretty, picturesque snow. We ask for a white Christmas and we're so excited about that first snowfall.
3. Preparation
Getting yourself physically ready as well as mentally is necessary to prepare for what is about to come.
4. Optimism
The realization of the winter journey starts to set in, but you almost forget how awful it is about to be and you think you can handle it.
5. Reality
That brave, adventurous you is out the window almost instantly and you remember why you constantly complain during this season.
6. Anger
Your hatred for this snow, this cold, and this season is exposed.
7. Sadness
It's only January and you are already done with this wind-whipping walk to class. Make it stop.
8. Loneliness
The only solution to this cold weather is to avoid it. You just want someone to cuddle up and avoid all responsibilities with, and that's what they call "cuffing season." And if this cold doesn't make you feel bad enough, just about everyone you know is getting engaged over the holiday season, and then there's you... eating the Valentine's day chocolate you bought yourself alone.
9. Illness
That yearly sickness is upon you now, and you fear that this might be the end for you.
10. Fear
If that cold doesn't kill you, the unplowed sidewalks just might. Getting to class is an adventure every day, and not falling is sometimes not an option. After that first fall, fear is permanently instilled in you for the rest of the season.
11. Doubt
By this point, you're questioning why you chose somewhere like this to live. Why not somewhere without subzero temperatures?
12. Hope
Someday soon, this weather will be over. Soon the snow will melt and the sun will be shining as you bring out those shorts and sandals again. Just have faith and may the odds be ever in your favor as you venture out into that blizzard
