This week at Misericordia University was Martin Luther King Jr. week. The university put on many events to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr. One of the events put on by the school that I attended was called Emotion Into Art by Tom Varano.
The event was a presentation where Tom Varano painted on canvas different leaders who have made a difference within our world as well as him speaking about his life. Some of the main points of his presentation were on dreams and passion, which connected all of the influential figures that he painted. One of the first things he discussed was creating dreams and working to achieve them, but in order to to do so you need to have passion fueling your dream.

The people around you and others you may not know can influence your life in ways you never know until you let them. People are able to recognize when you have passion for the dream you are living out, and when they see this they want to help you. Working towards your dreams, allowing people to help you, and then helping people in return is what you should live your life to do according to Mr. Varano. Your dream can influence other people’s lives, which means that your individual dream matters to the world. Life is opportunity with difficulty, and you need to live without fear or doubt. I think that the best part of Mr. Varano’s presentation was the fact that his ideas were connected to stories within his own life, making the whole presentation and performance highly personal.
After attending Emotion Into Art, I feel that those who attended the presentation have a new goal of reaching their dreams, whatever they may be. Tom Varano’s art and words are able to make a difference in the way people think and act. The event was a great way to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr., and I look forward to seeing more of Tom Varano’s art in the future.
