At 20 years old, I had never attended an Emo Nite. It always seemed a little too far away from home, especially for just silly DJs. After winning free tickets in November for Emo Nite LA's show in Orlando, I decided it was fate and I must go.
Upon entering, popular songs were playing from the top 40's and trap scenes. I honestly thought I was in the wrong place. I started making friends with other party-goers and took some cute pictures for my Instagram feed. An hour into the night, the early 2000s punk began. Old school Fall Out Boy and Panic! at The Disco quickly got everyone off their feet and onto the dance floor. People were jumping, singing, headbanging, and moshing to pretty much every song. Back to back bangers from My Chemical Romance, The Story So Far, and A Day to Remember blared through the speakers. I think I lost my voice halfway through the night.
Northbound's lead singer Jon, as well as We the Kings's drummer Danny, were guest DJs at Emo Nite. They did an incredible job getting the crowd going. The venue was small and the place was packed, making for a fun and sweaty evening.
Towards the end of the night, people started to head home, but the true punk fans stayed until the party ended at 1am. Afterward, downtown Orlando was still alive and well, with party-goers continuing the fun at bars and restaurants down the block.
I can honestly say this night was the best night I have had in a while. I highly recommend attending any sort of Emo Nite party. Whether it be at your local bar, Emo Night Brooklyn, or Emo Nite LA, these parties are a fun way to get out and show your emo side at the cool kids' party.
