‘Emily In Paris’ Does Not Deserve All The Hate, It’s Such a Good Show

I really don't understand all of the hate Emily gets. She is not that cringeworthy to watch.

Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, has received a ton of hate. Personally, I don't understand why. Is she not relatable? Is she too mean? Is she too friendly? What is everyone's problem with her?

Now, when I heard about the show, I thought I was going to hate it. I thought I was going to complain about this show for days. At least that is how everyone on Twitter made it out to be. I should have known better than trusting the words of people from Twitter.

After every episode, I thought to myself "Well, maybe something happens in the next episode that will make me hate Emily Cooper." But I said that to myself after every single episode until I realized I finished the season. My only thought at the end was I wanted more because of how much I enjoyed the show.

I respected Emily right in the beginning when she broke up with her boyfriend who told her to leave Paris because he couldn't handle a long-distance relationship. Good for her. She chose her career and youth over some guy in Chicago.

I respected Emily when she wasn't afraid to live in a new country for her job.

I respected Emily when she decided to take classes to learn French. Her French co-workers called her ignorant for coming to a country and now knowing the language. She didn't know for long that she was going to France and when she did, she took the initiative to learn the language. How is that ignorant?

Her co-workers were nothing but rude to her and she always tried to treat them with kindness regardless. She was sent there to work and they hate her for working hard.

Emily showed up to work early and they got annoyed that she was early to work. Why would someone get mad at someone who is excited to do their job and wanted to go to work?

A lot of the other characters ridiculed her for not smoking and told her to stop eating. Last time I checked, smoking kills you so I respected Emily for not smoking, even when everyone else was pressuring her to do so.

I respected her when she met some creepy guy at a party, she immediately turned him away.

She tried her best to help the company, aka doing her job, and she just got turned away all the time just because she is an American who joined their team. Emily was asked to go to Paris for her job. She is young and it was an opportunity that doesn't come often. Why was she getting hate for traveling to a new country and doing her job? What am I missing?

Most importantly, I respected Emily because she didn't let anyone change her. She didn't let anyone pressure her into smoking or to stop working hard at her job. That is hard to do because everyone wants to fit in and everyone wants to be liked by everyone. Emily didn't care about that. She knew who she was and she wanted to explore and learn and she did exactly that. Good for you, Emily.

Do I think we would be best friends if I knew her, probably not, but that's just because my personality wouldn't jive well with her optimistic, super happy, adventurous and extroverted personality. With that said, I don't think she is an unlikeable character and 100% does not deserve the hate she has been getting online. I can't wait for season two and to see what they do with Emily's character.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
