Embracing Uncertainty

Embracing who you are, where you are and where you have been.

Embracing Uncertainty

One of the greatest pieces of advice that is often not shared is to embrace uncertainty. The most beautiful chapters in our lives may not hold a title until years later because its the experience and journey of how you faced opposition. It's not about living large but to live abundantly in love and sharing that heart with as many possible. If I have learned anything in my almost 24 years, it's that I'm a living testimony and to have humility through honesty touches more lives than holding your current struggles within. What I used to think was my weakness is now my strength. My past is a testimony that I can share without hesitation or reliving the experiences. Constantly looking to grow and overcoming things as they come, brings more light to loving and understanding yourself more than you could possibly imagine. Throw a little Jesus in there and call it happiness. Let me make a point here, people appreciate your honesty if they're looking to grow because they could very well be quiet about encountering a similar circumstance or trying to go about themselves when they need to hear that there is a light to a healing process. Do not be afraid of judgement. It only means they are a shallow minded fool. Forgive and keep going. Call your struggles what they are, tell God or even a loving mentor and push through it because it isn't worth holding it in. This may very well be a chapter where you overcome something that will change your life but yet could change multiple lives for the rest of your own.

Psalms 62:5 "My soul, waits silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him."

You will always face trials on this Earth. The Bible clearly states that daily you will encounter struggles. Your faith, your patience, your attitude, etc all of who you are as God's child will be constantly tested. God says you are blessed when you persevere under trial. How do you persevere under trial? You have faith. You look forward knowing that right now isn't forever, but when you overcome this step you will look back and value it as a lesson from our heavenly father. In the deepest darkest moments of uncertainty God is with you. He will never leave nor forsake you in any struggle, but it is up to you to persevere under trial and not crumble under the pressure.

James 1:12

"Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
