Everyone wants glasses as a kid, right? For me, I hoped I would be able to get glasses. Well, my wish came true in third grade. When I was younger, glasses were more of a burden and less of a cute way to dress up an outfit. Everything I did, they seemed to get in the way.
Rainy days were the worst. Let me just say, if someone wants to invent windshield wipers that attach to glasses, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks. Gym class. Most people love it, but for me it was not fun; let’s just say dodge ball and glasses are not a good combo. Don’t even start me on shop class. My teacher insisted I didn’t need safety goggles because that’s what my glasses were for. The only reason I even attended shop in the first place was because it was required, and let’s just say things didn’t end well.
The list of distaste for my glasses could go on and on. I disliked my glasses so much that I even attempted contacts, with no success. Contacts were an even greater burden the\an glasses. They always seemed to irritate my eyes or fall out in class, so I’d end up wearing my glasses anyways. After about a month with contacts, I decided it was pointless and just surrendered to my glasses.
After having glasses for 12 years, I finally accepted them and decided to change my outlook on my spectacles. Yes, they can still be a burden in the rain or when I’m working out, but they can also be a snazzy way to dress up an outfit. I went from having one pair of glasses to slowly growing my collection, which is currently at three. Blue? Got them. Round? Check. A square pair, or copper, perhaps black? Check, check and check. My small list of glasses is slowly growing.
When most people get ready in the morning, they pick out an accessory to go with their outfit. For me, I pick out what color or style of glasses I’m going to wear. I’ve learned to embrace my four eyes and accept them as a part of me. No longer a burden, but rather a fashion statement. However, I would still love it if someone invented the windshield wipers for my glasses, which I could still really use. Thanks.
