Embrace Your Curiosity!

"I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious." - Albert Einstein

Embrace Your Curiosity!

Curiosity is defined as the thirst or desire for knowledge. Naturally, humans are curious creatures, we are drawn to new things, new ideas, new places. We would not be where we are today if it were not for curiosity. It is what advances us as a species, what allows us to evolve. Albert Einstein is a phenomenal example of the success that can spring from being explorative and curious.

As children, we are taught to embrace the imaginative and explorative side of our brain, but the older we get the more taboo it is for someone to be curious and adventurous. Kids have got a million questions running through their minds, most of the time they're considered inappropriate simply because they're very direct with what they are asking. Whereas with adults, we've learned ways to bend around being direct while still getting our point across. Regardless, they are not afraid to ask a question.

Personally, at least 150 questions run through my head each day. Many of which stem from the process of learning one thing and becoming interested in things similar. Most of us have this process, it is what makes us human. The only difference being not many of us take the time or have the passion to discover the answer. Remember when you're boss would say "The only stupid question is the one not asked."? It's true. There is no such thing as a stupid question. If you are curious about something, ask! Do not be afraid to ask a question. Asking questions leads to knowledge, whether you use that bit of knowledge in your lifetime does not matter. The opportunity to learn something is a wonderful gift.

For children, the imaginative side of our thoughts typically rest in the world of dragons, fairies, and space ships in our backyards. For adults, our imaginative side focuses on the more realistic and inventive ideas of the world we live in. Both of which are wonderful but I feel as though adults can embrace deeper parts of their imagination and creativity and use this to create a successful world. Instead of being afraid to explore and learn, we should embrace this natural urge and see the places it could take us!

" I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious." - Albert Einstein

To top it off, here is one of my favorites quotes by one of my favorite people. Curiosity may have steered him into the ground a couple of times but Einstein never gave up on his true passion which was the idea of discovering. So whether it's visiting a new place, learning something new, trying a new hobby, or trying a new food, whatever it may be, embrace your curiosity. Ask questions and explore. Do not be afraid! You may run into a few bumps here and there but there is nothing worse than being stagnant in a world full of opportunities and adventures!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
