A lake spreads out
before me,
dark poison
too cold to touch
too dark to see.
It is deep into the night hours
as I walk along
the side of the lake,
holding my arms
close to my body.
It's just me,
holding myself.
I reach the water and
step back
to gaze
at the stars,
and for a moment
the sky embraces me.
But then
I am back to embracing myself,
cold and alone again.
The lake
whispers my name
across the ripples.
I run,
and dive into
the dark waters
letting myself sink.
The lake
holds me from all around,
cradling my body
and for the first time
I feel held.
The stars scream
demanding that I return.
They call to me,
telling me that
I should have dived into their sky.
But I knew,
that if I dove into the sky,
the stars would only
and throw me
to the ground.
