Get cozy with it.

As the weather gets colder, it seems that all we want to do is get cozy. Admit it: once the weather dips below 40 degrees, you just want a warm drink, your favorite sweater and either a pet or a loved one to cuddle with. It's so universal, the Danes have a special word for it-- hygge, one of those untranslatable words that essentially describes the cozy feeling you seek out during winter.

You've probably heard that word before-- after all, hygge had its own trend in 2015 or so. However, that doesn't mean that you must embrace hygge, but you should! With an emphasis on comfort and taking it slow, hygge is the perfect way to supplement your self-care plan, especially with the winter on its way.

Here are three ways to embrace hygge now:

1. Make your space into a cozy nest

For me, the first step is setting the mood. Find your fluffiest blankets, pile on the pillows and hang up some string lights. Design your space to be your idea of relaxing!

2. Unplug (at least from your phone)...

We're always on our phones--that's a fact. However, hygge isn't about mindless scrolling...it's about intentionality. Put down your phone and pick up something that doesn't have a screen, like a book or another hobby.

If you'd rather, you can watch tv, and listen to music-- just try to be mindful and focused on yourself.

3. And connect (with yourself or friends)

Hygge is all about taking care of your mental health, and part of mental health is social interaction. It can be hard sometimes, but it is so essential and can be so refreshing.

Had a long week with a lot of people? Take a night to yourself. Feel like you haven't seen anyone? Get together with a friend or five and get in that needed social interaction.

Whether you're jumping on the hygge train for self-care or just to get cozy this winter, remember: there's nothing wrong with slowing down and comforting yourself sometimes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
