I have always been a believer in superstition, but I have never believed in something like this. The world is growing at a fast rate, and the most impossible things are becoming possible every day. In reading a recent article on Independent, author Andrew Griffin really got my mind racing.
Everyone who’s anyone knows Elon Musk he is the founder, CEO and CTO of SpaceX; co-founder, CEO and product architect of Tesla Motors; co-founder and Chairman of SolarCity; co-chairman of OpenAl; co-founder of Zip2; and co-founder of PayPal. To say this man single-handedly has changed the way the world uses technology today would be an understatement. He has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for now and for the future. In a recent interview regarding Musk, I found my jaw dropping to the floor and my mind racing. “Musk had done it again," I thought he had opened up everyone’s mind to this strange and confusing possibility.
He presented the statement: There is only a “one in billions” chance that we’re not living in a computer simulation.
He believes that our lives are being conducted in an artificial world powered by AI and highly powered computers, like in The Matrix.
He stated that we are living in a virtual reality and either we will make simulations we can’t tell apart from the real world, “or civilization will cease to exist."
This thought has never crossed my mind, could we be living in a “computer game?” If you think about it technology throughout the years has become increasingly advanced and everything is becoming stronger, better and faster. The thought of other lives controlling our day-to-day operations seems extremely insane. I find myself questioning, after reading about his ideas, if what I am seeing is a simulation or real life? This idea has been prevalent for many years but has never reached a discussion this advanced.
With technology continuing to grow and companies becoming more advanced, this idea does not seem too far off. I mean if companies have the power to create artificial intelligence, there is nothing stopping these simulations from being created at the drop of a hat.
“If you assume any rate of improvement at all, then the games will become indistinguishable from reality, just indistinguishable," Musk said.
Assuming that we are living in this virtual reality this leaves people questioning how we could ever find out. How could we use the technology we are constantly creating to see if these theories are proven?
Is life just a game?
