It has been a long wait, 13 years to be precise, but it finally happened. This past Friday marked the premiere for "Finding Dory," the sequel to "Finding Nemo," which debut in May 2003.
"Finding Nemo" captured audiences as they followed the journey of Marlin (Albert Brooks), a widower clownfish, in search for his missing son, Nemo (Alexander Gould), who was caught by scuba divers. As Marlin continues his swim of the waters in order to bring his son home, he meets a certain blue forgetful fish named Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) to help him during his travels.
Now 13 years later, that certain, forgetful blue fish is experiencing a journey of her own as she reunites with her family. "Finding Dory," like its predecessor, is a Disney Pixar animated film where once again Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres reprise their roles as the fish duo and welcomes new incoming voices to the franchise including Hayden Rolence, Diane Keaton, Ty Burrell, and Ed O'Neill.
As one of the highly anticipated films of the year, "Finding Dory" gained quite the attention as recognition grew. Over various platforms of social media, statuses and posts were created very much similar to the one below.
Although it was quite the wait, Ellen DeGeneres was the biggest supporter of the idea of a sequel, for she was always pitching and hinting at it over the years.
Recently on her Friday taping of her show, DeGeneres celebrated "Finding Dory Day" sharing a few comedic jabs with the audience as well as hinting at perhaps another movie, "Finding Dory 2."
DeGeneres pokes fun at the audience for being at the show instead of the theaters but quickly smoothed it over with the understanding that they would go afterwards. She then addressed the long wait coupled with a flashback of several clips of her mentioning a "Finding Nemo" sequel over the last 13 years since the debut of the first film, "I can't believe it has been 13 years. I just kept swimming. I just kept swimming, Finally, we're here."
After a bit more fun and definitely more laughs, joking that "Finding Dory" was more important than a wedding or pregnancy test, DeGeneres had this to say: "I'm proud of it [Finding Dory] and all I can say is there will be a 'Finding Dory 2.' There will be. Even if I have to draw it myself, there will be." This bold statement automatically received applause and cheers from the audience.
With her dedication, especially when it comes to Dory, it is very plausible. Dory might be forgetful, but Ellen DeGeneres will definitely compensate for that. And now it might not be another 13 years.
