It's just a body at the beach.

There are many reasons why people aim to lose weight, to exercise and to eat better. Some reasons on why people may try to lose weight by exercising and eating better would be to become a healthier person, to actually lose weight and for many other reasons. One very popular reason on why a lot of people try to lose weight in the late winter and throughout spring, is to gain what is referred to as a "beach body" or a "bikini body" or even a "summer body". And for people to lose weight to have one of those body types, makes the idea of a summer, beach or bikini body to be perceived as thin and skinny.

Having those body types perceived that way is very unhealthy. If someone who is very healthy, and just has a little bit of weight on them tries to lose weight to have one of those bodies, it can spiral into unhealthy eating habits, such as developing an eating disorder and even mental health disorders. I am overweight and every year I try to lose weight in time for summer so I can finally wear a bikini. It is very unhealthy for anyone to establish the idea that someone has to be thin or skinny to be seen as attractive.

When the idea that being skinny and thin is attractive to others, that can lead those who are not skinny and thin to obsess on how they look. If someone has curves and a little bit of fat, and makes healthy choices and is healthy physically thinks that they need to be skinny to be attractive could foster mental disorders such as social anxiety disorder, narcissistic personality disorder and much more. This could also lead to unhealthy eating disorders, such as anorexia or bulimia.

We, as a society, should eliminate the terms "bikini body", "beach body" and "summer body" because it gives others unhealthy thoughts that being skinny and thin is attractive. A beach body is a body at the beach. A bikini body is a body in a bikini. And a summer body is a body in summer, or just a tan body.

As a girl who does not like the way she looks because she has fat thighs, a fat stomach, grandma arms, heart problems and big boobs, I don't like that having a certain body can make someone attractive. I want to think that I am attractive, but thinking that I am not because I weigh more than 130 pounds makes me upset. It makes me think that no one will like me, and for someone to like me, I have to lose weight.

We need to stop thinking that being thin and skinny makes someone attractive and pretty, it warps our minds into believing that it is true, when it is not always true.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
