Response to “6 Ways to Improve Your Morning Routine

Looking at some iconic movies over the years, like “The Devil Wears Prada” or any early 2000’s move for that matter, the movie kicks off with the main character shuffling through their closet with nothing to wear, or sitting at their desk brushing their hair and running out the door with a bagel in their hand to catch the bus to head to school or work.

We all know those mornings in the movies are not even close to what happens in real life. Some days you get up with plenty of time to get ready. On other days you may be running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Regardless of the kind of day you have, here are six easy steps to elevate your morning and kick it off on the right foot.

Drink a Cup of Water

Do this even before getting out of bed. Better yet, this is the easiest thing to do IN bed. This will kick off your morning hydrated and refreshed.

Make Your Bed

I love coming home after a long day of work (or school) to a made bed. It is so clean and neat. And even if my day with chaotic and messy, my room does not show it.

Write Out What You Are Grateful For

Starting off your day with three things that you are grateful for will not only make you feel good, but it starts your morning reflecting on the day before, but also focusing on all the good things that will make your day great today.

Eat Breakfast

I don’t know what it was in middle school and high school, but it was considered “uncool” to eat breakfast which I never really got. I know some people don’t have much of an appetite in the morning, but they aren’t lying when they say “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” So even if it is just a granola bar, eat something so you are fueled until lunch. To go along with that…

Take Your Vitamins

Vitamins were always something my mom made me take and never really understood why until I got older. Your body, as you get older, will start to lack certain nutrients, especially if you don’t eat a well-balanced diet. If you are not sure what to take, you can always take a Men’s or Women’s daily vitamin or consult with your doctor.

Apply Sunscreen to Your Face

Skincare is part of my morning routine. Without doing it, I feel really lost. But if you skip the moisturizer or the serum, be sure to put on some sunscreen. Even if it is cloudy and maybe even raining. There are always UV rays shining, some days it is stronger than others. Regardless, those UV rays will have negative effects on your skin over time. So do your future self a favor and take care of your skin now.

Now, like I said, the start of your day will not always work out the way you want it to. But give these new habits a try! You may find that you cannot live without it.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
