Bring me back to the days when the Earth was unharmed by our greed
When lush gardens were planted and miracles grew from our seed
Left untainted by crooks with their goals of a stockier yield
See the food that we harvest. The land’s a corrupt, poisoned fieldTake me back to the years before species had all lost their way
Once they thrived, now they drown or are choked by our waste. We betray
them, our brothers, we cut down their homes, and I fear it’s too late
While our roofs remain sturdy, theirs crumble and melt as their fate.
Guide me back to the ways that we treated our home with respect
For the oceans and deltas are littered with signs of neglect
And we think we’re entitled to everything under our step?
We destroy in our wake, and we take. Oh, how nature has wept.
Hold me back from the practices threatening to block out the sky
We must all be more prudent, with CO2 levels so high
Yes, I drive. But some still have the nerve—No!—to say that it might
be a hoax...Wait and see! Watch our ashy smog stomp out the light!
Wake us up with the rumble of trees as they drop.
Make us ill by a modified fruit.
Wake us up to the difference between need and want.
Turn our eyes and our hearts to the truth.
For until we commit to a change, we must see we’ve done wrong.
Mother Earth can’t keep up. She will crumble away before long.
