The Electoral College Will Decide On Monday the 19th: Is There Still A Chance For Clinton?

Many of us Americans have been in a cloud of depression since November 8th. This orange billionaire that we've laughed at over the years is now the President-Elect. But it's not just him we have to worry about it's literally everyone he has picked for his cabinet. You've got an Oil Enthusiast running the EPA, and an Anti-Semite as his Chief Strategist, and many other unfathomable picks. AND, Republicans have the senate and house majority!

But – it's not over. Let's first look at the fact that Hillary Clinton has 2.8 million more votes than Donald Trump…If that does not blow your mind, then I don't know what will.

Donald Trump was able to be named the President-Elect because of the Electoral College system. Each state has a certain number of electors, designed by the Founding Fathers, on one end, to give the Slave States more power so that they would join the Union. On the other end, it was designed to keep unfit candidates out of office… people like Donald Trump. They did not trust that the people would always pick someone that was competent enough for the position, so the Electors from each state are able to ultimately decide. Take Pennsylvania, which Trump won, the Electors are generally supposed to vote for the candidate that the state elected, but they are able to go against them.

Many Electors from states that Trump won have already spoken out that they will not vote for him, therefore being 'Faithless Electors.' The first one to speak out against him was Texas Republican Elector, Chris Suprun who is a Dallas paramedic. Suprun is displeased (as many of us are) about Trump's recent attack on the First Amendment. Trump had a private meeting with several people from the Media like Wolf Blitzer and Lester Holt, railing them out for talking bad about him. He talked about wanting to adjust the first amendment, which is largely a tactic for him to make sure the press no longer says anything bad about him.

The Electoral College is now demanding an Intelligence Briefing due to the recent Russian cyber-hackings that were done in order to make sure Trump would become president. Trump has even filed a lawsuit to make sure the Electors are unable to vote against him!

Though the Electoral College is an outdated system, it has a positive, which is to prevent people like Trump that want to be more like a King instead of a President.

Liberal filmmaker, Michael Moore wrote an article back in August titled “Five Reasons Donald Trump Will Win." The ironic point was that he thought Trump had strength in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, which are the states that won him the election. Last week, Moore was on Late Night with Seth Meyers and made yet another bold prediction: that the Electoral College will vote against Trump.

Here's a nice compiled list of Trump mishaps since the day he was elected:

-Russia hackings.

-Twitter attacks. One against the company, Carrier's Union Leader.

-Unjustified Cabinet picks.

-Warning to mess with the First Amendment.

-Claims that no one really knows if Climate Change exists.

-Private phone calls with world leaders.

-Filing a legal claim against the Electoral College.

And there is much more I haven't covered, but it is obvious that he would be a dangerous president.

All in all, Clinton still has a very good chance of becoming president.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
