Two weeks ago, WikiLeaks, an organization that publishes secret information, hacked and released over 19,000 Democratic National Committee emails. The emails contained references to the leadership of the DNC attempting to shut out candidate Bernie Sanders from primary events. They further stated that the DNC executives were purposefully attempting to shut Sanders out of events to boost Clinton's status. This, of course, has caused a major scandal. DNC chairwoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz was forced to resign due to the magnitude of the scandal. Marcia Fudge has been elected as the new DNC chair. However, the fact still remains that the system was rigged and it should not have been.
My first thought was: Does anyone else find this troubling? I mean, I found it startling that the DNC seemed to be attempting to rig the election. The idea that our system is so corrupt that it actually tried to sabotage another candidate scares me. Particularly after Clinton’s private internet server disaster, maybe they should just take a break from using email. My second thought was: Is anyone actually surprised? Supporters of Sanders have been claiming for a while that the system is rigged. Maybe it's just me, but the fact that the Democratic party favors Hillary did not come as a shock. Annoying? Yes. Shocking? Not at all. The fact of the matter is, the DNC is run by highly politically savvy professionals. They should know that sabotaging one candidate in favor of another is very poor form. Regardless of the candidate being favored, the fact that a major political organization would attempt to stack the deck in favor of a particular candidate is abhorrent.
No matter who you want to vote for, one's political leanings should have no bearing on their view of the subject. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, the fact that the DNC is trying to sabotage a presidential candidate is troubling. The fact that the DNC executives were abusing their power in order to rig the system is irritating, to say the least. Many people would prefer that these matters be handled in an even-handed manner. Rigging an election is cheating, no matter who it is rigged against or for.
