The 2016 US Presidential election will likely go down in infamy. For that reason, I find myself comforted in the knowledge that God is in control. He loves us and will do anything for us, even though we have sinned (just like the candidates presented before us).

Dear God,
Today is the day that the United States (and much of the rest of the world) has waited for in anticipation. We have not waited patiently. There have been arguments and riots, scandals and cover-ups and inequality in every sense. In the midst of all of this, you have been watching over us and subtly guiding us to always put you first. You have reminded me that these candidates are not people to idolize, but people that you have put in this position to teach us something. The Bible does not have a "parable of the election," but if it did, I'm sure it would be just like this.
Today I thank you for the freedom Americans have to vote and express our opinions. I thank you for our freedom to openly worship you. I thank you for guiding our founding fathers in building a nation with your beliefs as a cornerstone. While we may have moved away from those initial principles, I thank you for not abandoning us. In spite of what doubters and non-believers may think, you have not put our country in this position as a punishment. You are looking over us and will guide us.
I ask for guidance as I cast my ballot today. Please help me to choose a candidate with the knowledge that you will work through the new president and make them a great leader for our country. I pray for peace so that the country will be able to accept the new president and work with them.
Finally, God, I pray that others will look to you at this time and find peace and comfort in knowing that you are more powerful than any president we could ever elect. You are the King, and because of that I know I will be okay regardless of who wins the election.
In Jesus' name I pray,
