Why I'm Keeping My Vote Private

The final month leading up to the presidential election is always stressful- and this year is no different. Every day I see hundreds of political posts on my Facebook feed. I know who many of my friends are voting for- and yet, some I have no idea who they're leaning towards. As much as I post about politics and world issues on my own page, I like to keep my vote private.

I was raised in a fairly conservative household. I didn't realize my views differ from my parents' until about a year ago. My parents are both from very Red parts of the country- my Dad is from Missouri, and my Mom was raised in southern Wisconsin. Despite my upbringing, I tend to lean towards the left side, until this election.

There's nothing wrong with being reserved, especially on social media. I know exactly who some of my friends are voting for, because they make it obvious. I'm trying my best to keep my vote in the dark- for many reasons.

For one, I don't want to upset my family. My extended relatives hang out on both sides of the political spectrum. My mother's family is very liberal, while my dad's is not. I don't want to cause a stir at thanksgiving, silly as it seems.

I also don't want to lose friends. I have close friends voting for Trump, and for Hillary. I don't want to let them think their vote is more valid than mine.

Mostly, I don't want to let that part of me go just yet. I'm typically very vocal about my morals, views and whatnot. I figure I'll leave it all to the imagination until Election Day.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
