Turning 18 is a new chapter of my life.

18 Things I Learned By 18

I will soon no longer be a minor but an adult. I'll be age of consent. To be honest, it's very, very scary. I'm here today to share the 18 things I've learned. I turn 18 on the 21st of September.

1. Time Flies By

Holy Moly! I'm not kidding when time flies by. I'm a senior in high school and it feels like just yesterday I was finishing eighth grade and getting nervous for high school. Four years later, I can't believe I'm a soon-to-be high school graduate and then college student.

2. Be Grateful

Be grateful to your parents and family. For 18 years, they spent money on your education, needs, wants, etc. Most importantly, be grateful for your family and the people in your life.

3. People will come and go

The past six to seven years I've lost a ton of friends. Yeah at the time I was bummed, but later in life I learned that's natural. Not everyone is meant to stay in your life.

4. Everything happens for a reason

Whether you believe in God or not, God has a plan for all of us. Everything that happens of our life happens for a reason. It's cliché, but it's true. We might not believe it now, but later, we will.

5. Life is beautiful

Some people may not see it because they might be going through something, but life is a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

6. When one chapter closes, another opens

Life is like a book: there's chapters closed and chapters to be read. Everyone has a story untold.

7. Change is okay

Everyone will go through changes. It just is part of life, too.

8. Be willing to try new things

You'll never know whether you like something or not if you don't try it. My dad uses that when I don't try new foods. I'm a picky eater.

9.Don't worry too much

This is something I have to work on. I'm always worrying about something either for school or the future. What matters is the present. There might not be a tomorrow.

10. Do what you love

Doing something to please others will not bring happiness to yourself. It's you who should come first. I joined debate for my brother, but I didn't like it so I didn't continue. I wasn't going to waste my time doing something I'm not passionate about.

11.Be original

No need to pretend to be someone you're not.

12. Never give up

13. Let it go

Forget the past, live in the present. The past is in the past, and it can't be undone.

14. Love yourself15. Be happy

Happiness is not a destination, but a journey.

16. It's okay not to be okay

There will be good days and there will be bad days. It's inevitable. We just have to push through those bad days and focus on positivity not negativity. I sometimes act strong in front of people because I don't want to show them my true colors.

17. Life isn't easy

I've learned this plenty of times. It wasn't meant to be easy nor was it meant to be painful or super challenging.

18. Enjoy every moment of life

One day we're here, another we might not be here. Also, enjoy it because we're only a certain age once. We're young once.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
