Through my extensive studies of the female gender and the Purdue sorority system, I have come up with eight reasons why the girl you’re talking to might not exactly be girlfriend material.
1. She Feels Too Entitled
Whether it's her family status, her letters or just that she’s a female, this type of girl thinks that she’s automatically entitled to your attention and gives off the vibe that she’s better than everyone else. This is the type of girl who complains about how long the line to the bar is while WE are the ones serving and paying for the drinks. This is also the type of girl who calls me out when the vodka coming out of my Grey Goose bottle is actually McCormick’s. (Come on, cut me some slack. I’m a broke college guy.)
2. She Only Has Guy Friends
There’s always something questionable about the girl who only has guy friends. I understand that there’s definitely drama that occurs in sororities that us guys will never fully understand, but if she can’t make friends with her sisters or other women, in general, then there’s a problem. I’m not the jealous type, but there’s just something uncomfortable about dating a girl who is constantly surrounded by her guy friends.
3. Her Social Media is Drunk
This girl’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. is flooded with unflattering pictures of her with solo cups, looking drunk and alcohol everywhere. Show some class and clean up your social image. I love the party girl, but there is nothing sexier than a girl who balances the party with responsibility. That’s wifey material right there.
4. She’s Loose With Her Sexuality
Sure, one night stands are a part of being young, wild and free, but those don't create relationships (in most cases). The girl who requires a little more effort is way more appealing than the easy girl. As much as we hate to admit it, men love a challenge.
5. She’s a Stage 5 Clinger
Please excuse the pun of my last name for a second… The Stage 5 Clinger is involved in every aspect of your life. She stays the night so many times that the house treasurer comes around asking for her to pay dues. This girl is constantly double texting you, questioning your motives of talking to other girls, and is tracking you on the Find My Friends iPhone app to keep tabs. If you find that you don’t have enough personal time or time to hang with your bros, then you need to drop this girl IMMEDIATELY.
6. She’s Too Concerned or Not Concerned Enough With Her Appearance
There are two extremes here, both a turn off. There is something wrong with someone who overly dresses up for early morning classes. I won't lie; if I can make it out of the house in sweats and a hoodie, it’s been a successful morning. But on the other side, there’s something wrong with the girl who looks like a slob day after day or who comes to class in the same clothes she wore partying the night before. Guys want girls with good hygiene, but who can rock sweatpants.
7. She’s Flaky
A flaky girl is constantly canceling previously made plans and promising to make up for it later on (which, surprise, rarely ever happens). This is also the girl who will mysteriously stop texting you, but proceeds to Tweet, post to her Instagram, and comment on her 10th new profile picture of the week. The only consistency you can count on is her inconsistency.
8. She Doesn't Like Dogs
Dogs are man's best friend, so by the property of association (thanks math) a women who doesn't love dogs is a woman who I, in turn, cannot love. Plus my mom said I can't date a girl who doesn't like dogs, so... sorry.
I can’t speak for every guy in terms of these signs, but according to my extensive research, these are the signs that came up amongst the fraternity men that I polled on campus. So girls, if you’re looking for a relationship in the near future I suggest re-evaluating your life so that these signs aren’t a part of your routine.
