UCLA and USC have one of the most deeply rooted rivalries in college football, and one can argue that regardless of the scoreboard, UCLA always comes out on top.
Our Mascots
Joe and Josie Bruin > Tommy the Trojan. Tommy the Trojan and Traveler (his horse) are honestly kind of scary looking, but Joe and Josie are the cuddliest and most friendly looking mascots around. Remember, a Trojan is only good once, but a Bruin lasts forever.
Most Applied to School in the Nation
UCLA has received the most applications out of every college in the nation, so it’s obviously more desirable and more selective, with a lower acceptance rate than USC.
Location
Even USC students can admit that UCLA’s location is way better and safer. First off, Westwood has movie premieres like, every other week, and you never feel unsafe walking around late at night. UCLA is surrounded by some of the most posh neighborhoods, including Brentwood, Beverly Hills, and Bel Air, while USC is almost nationally known for being on the bad side of town.
Better at Sports
UCLA has the most NCAA championships in the nation with 112, and that includes 12 more than USC. Let’s all not forget who won the UCLA vs. USC football game the past three years.
Famous Alumni
Jackie Robinson, Arthur Ashe, John Wooden, Kareen Abdul-Jabbar, Jack Black, and many more were all Bruins. However, some well-known Trojans include O.J. Simpson and Mark McGwire... need I say more?
The Rose Bowl
USC’s LA Memorial Coliseum is alright, but UCLA decided to upgrade to The Rose Bowl, one of the most famous stadiums in American sporting history. Along with hosting the UCLA Bruins every fall, The Rose Bowl has been home to five Super Bowl games, the 1994 FIFA World Cup Final, and the 1984 Olympic Gold Metal Match.
The Food
Every visiting Trojan praises the food at UCLA, because it’s truly that much better than the dining halls all of that private school tuition goes toward.
Our Colors
The Bruins sporting their powder blue is one of the most iconic looks in college football, and I’m pretty sure no one looks bad in powder blue. A lot of people can’t pull off that ugly red and yellow combination, and the fans looks especially bad trying to make it look good. Perhaps the red and yellow uniforms are foreshadowing for another red and yellow uniform their students will most likely be wearing in the future...
