1). Universal Higher Education

Bernie Sanders is preaching universal higher education in America. College students, being weighed down by their thousands upon thousands of dollars in student loan debt, are envisioning a world where they might actually get to spend their future pay checks on things that aren’t bills!

2). Refinance Student Loans

Those who have already gone to college and left, with thousands of dollars of debt following them, will have a chance to refinance their student loan debt under Bernie Sanders. Senator Sanders would let anyone paying off student loans refinance at a lower rate.

3). Reasonable Gun Control Policy

Lately gun control has become a very hot issue in the White House. President Obama has put out a very stringent policy for gun control that has brought down his favorability in recent weeks. Senator Sanders has offered up a much less stringent policy, offering to make background checks mandatory everywhere, while also stating that it should be up to the state and not the federal government to handle waiting periods on guns.

4). Increasing Minimum Wage

The United States Federal Minimum Wage currently stands at $7.25. According to pbs.org, about twenty percent of those making minimum wage are college aged ( ages 16 to 19 ). A bill set forth by current President Obama to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 was recently denied in Congress. Senator Sanders would like to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

5). More Jobs

Bernie Sanders, among other ideas for jobs, has proposed the Rebuild America Act, the purpose of which will not only help rebuild the infrastructure in America, but open upon thirteen million jobs in the country.

6). Health Care for All

Senator Sanders has proposed Universal Health Care for all people. Twenty million Americans still have no health care. Even those who do have health care are being cheated with high deductibles and not being covered for procedures that are needed. Bernie proposes that everyone in America should be given healthcare with a Medicare for all system.

7). Fund Planned Parenthood

Senator Sanders has been an advocate towards women’s rights. He supports Planned Parenthood, which provides services for women that include testing for STI’s and HIV, cancer screenings, general health care, etc… The Vermont Senator plans to expand Planned Parenthood and offer more funding.

8). Fix the White Male dominated Work Place

Even though the Equal Pay Act has been in effect since 1963 , Caucasian women are still making 78 cents to every dollar that a man makes. African American women make 64 cents to every dollar that a Caucasian man makes. Hispanic women make 54 cents to every dollar that the white man makes. Senator Sanders is proposing the Paycheck Fairness Law, in order to strengthen the Equal Pay Act.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
