Halloween is upon us and all I've been wanting to do lately is sit in bed all day and watch scary movies to get in the spirit of Halloween. These movies, in my opinion, are some of my favorites for the occasion but not in any particular order. Tis the season.
1.Scream (1996)
Everyone has seen the mask from this classic and it is still one of my favorites today. It is one that will make you sit on the edge of your seat while at the same time adding in a little humor because of the way the director played around with the horror dialogue.
2. Donnie Darko (2001)
This is an interesting take on the way that people view schizophrenia as portrayed in the character of Donnie Darko. The character is played by Jake Gyllenhaal and it makes you think about what reality is in twisted weird sort of way.
3. Halloween (1978)
Even if you haven't seen this classic, you will know the name Michael Myers because it is still one of the most famous Halloween movies today. Also, it's a very common costume. This is a must see classic for everyone's Halloween.
4. The Amityville Horror (1979)
Although this movie is also kind of dated and has been remade, it is still a great one because it is not like any other horror movie for Halloween, "it's a little stupid, somewhat laughable, and full of overt freak out moments—perfect for some fun if you're not in the mood for the really dark stuff."
5.The Conjuring (2014)
In terms of paranormal and haunting, this is by far my favorite movie. It is "based on real events", which already makes you not want to watch it...if you believe in that kind of stuff. It overall makes you want to continue watching throughout the whole movie.
6.The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
This horror movie is definitely a good choice if you want one about the spiritual belief that states that performing an exorcism can rid the "demon" out of a person. It is a pretty well executed movie, although I haven't seen it in a while.
7. The Haunting of Molly Hartley (2008)
It has been a couple years since I've seen this movie but I still remember it being pretty good for a good scare. It has more of a creep factor than horror but is still worth the watch.
8. It Follows (2014)
I actually have never seen this movie but it seems like a very original American horror movie. It is hard to make a scary movie that is truly original, but this movie does just that. It is "clever and terrifying" and is definitely on my watch list this year.
