Eight Actors Who Have Also Been "Leonardo DiCaprio'ed" with the Oscars

Many other prestigious actors have fallen victim to the snubbery of the Academy and have been left without an Oscar award for far too long.

The Academy

Sunday, February 28th, 2016 marked an end of honorary memes and one upsetting legacy: the fight to get Leonardo DiCaprio an Academy Award. The internet had been beset by Leo's longing for an Oscar for years, shrewdly exhibiting this through clever puns and inexplicable doomed DiCaprio faces. If you have no idea what I am talking about, here is just a little taste:

Yes.

Again, the fun of being snubbed nearly outweighed the joy of Leo winning.

And this is where the social world stands now, cold and alone with only the deserted websites of these memes as memories. Not that they are going anywhere; they will literally always be on the web for eternity. But it is the thought that is saddening.

I am extremely satisfied that DiCaprio has finally claimed his Oscar for Actor in a Leading Role. He is deserving of it after four previous Oscar nominations for his part in movies like Blood Diamond, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Aviator, and What's Eating Gilbert Grape. His talent, both on and off screen, is impeccable, and it was his time to win. You go, Leo.

But now we need to acknowledge the fact that Leonardo DiCaprio is not the only actor to ever be snubbed countlessly by the Academy. Shocking, isn't it? Only a little. If you are ill-informed like so many others, not to worry. I am here to aid you. Be prepared to hate the internet for ever overlooking these actors and actresses that have been "DiCaprio'ed" ruthlessly.

1. Amy Freaking Adams.

This woman is the mitochondria of acting- the powerhouse of the film industry. We know Ms. Adams for her incredible work in movies like American Hustle, The Fighter, Big Eyes, Man of Steel, and for the Disney lovers, Enchanted. She has starred in a copious amount of films, all exhibiting her range and ability onscreen. Adams' talent is raw and dazzling, her performances riveting and ethereal. And guess what? The Academy has indeed applauded her with nominations. Five, to be exact. That is one more than Leo, everyone.

Adams' Oscar Nominations:

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- American Hustle (2014),  The Master (2013), The Fighter (2011), Doubt (2009), & Junebug (2006).

Where are the Amy Adams memes, @internet??

2. King Johnny Depp

America loves Johnny Depp more than they love the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory. He keeps us on our toes as he always inhabits a character that is wholly different than the previous role he played. First name Johnny, last name Versatile. (That's me, trying to be like Jay-Z.) Depp arrived in Hollywood in 1984, starring in horror film, Nightmare on Elm Street, and struck gold-or, shall I say metal- in 1990 with Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands and Ed Wood (1994). He entranced the globe as Captain Jack Sparrow first in 2003 in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. In more recent years, Depp has captivated us as Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2005), the Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland 2010), and vampire Barnabas Collins (Dark Shadows 2012).

Any Oscars? Not one. But he has been nominated three times.

Depp's Oscar Nominations:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role- Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2004), Finding Neverland (2005), & Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2008),

Rooting for you, Johnny boy.

3. Queen Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams is one of my favorite actresses simply because she embellishes strength and innocence in an effortless manner. She is a living juxtaposition. Quiet mother of Matilda (with late Heath Ledger- what another legend) offscreen, Williams steals the screen wholeheartedly in every single role she lands. Unfamiliar with her movies? Here are just a few: Dolores in Shutter Island (2010), Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn (2011), Alma in Brokeback Mountain (2005), Cindy in Blue Valentine (2010), and Jen Lindley in TV series Dawson's Creek (1998-2003). She is menacingly talented, guys. The Academy knows it, too.

Williams' Oscar Nominations:

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- Blue Valentine (2011) & My Week With Marilyn (2012); Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role- Brokeback Mountain (2006)

Marilyn wants you to win an Oscar, Michelle. So do I.

4. Brad Pitt (hey, there)

Before I begin to talk about this god, I must explain that he has won an Oscar. This was in 2014 for his involvement in the immaculate film 12 Years of Slave. This award, though prestigious and amazing, did not go to his acting abilities. Just like the previous 3 actors, Pitt has been snubbed endlessly for his beautiful performances in many films. To name a few of these, he has graced our screens as Tyler Durden in Fight Club (1999), Mills in Se7en (1995), Rusty Ryan in Ocean's Eleven (2001), Floyd in True Romance (1993), Lt. Aldo Raine in Inglorious Bastards (2009), Billy Beane in Moneyball (2011), and this past year as Ben Rickert in The Big Short. He has been in an abundant of extraordinary films, and if you do not believe me, just Google it.

Pitt's Oscar Nominations (For Acting):

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) & Moneyball (2011); Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role- Twelve Monkeys (1995)

Do not give up, Bradley. Keep acting, because you are beautiful.

5. Viola Davis the Great and Powerful

Viola first captured my heart when she became Aibileen Clark and reiterated the line: "You is kind, you is smart, and you is important." That was in The Help (2011), and she was indeed nominated for an Oscar but did not bring home the gold, which actually shocked the entire world, including Meryl Streep whom won that year. Her performance as Aibileen was seamless and unapologetic; it left me with my hands above my head in high praises. Aside from The Help, Davis has been astounding in a wide variety of films and, most recently, in the television series How to Get Away with Murder. Also, people never seem to talk about her role in the film Doubt (2008). If you have not seen this movie, watch it immediately. Viola is stunningly omnipotent, even though she is only in about ten minutes of the film. We have also seen Ms. Davis in Prisoners (2013), Eat Pray Love (2010), It's Kind of a Funny Story (2010), and we will be beguiled by her in this summer's Suicide Squad.

Davis's Oscar Nominations:

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role- The Help (2012) & Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role- Doubt (2009)

Viola: You is kind, you is smart, you is Oscar-worthy.

6. Ed Freaking Harris.

Yeah, that's right. One of the most adept actors of our time has never brought home an Oscar. What up with that, Academy? We have captured Mr. Harris in films such as The Truman Show (1998), Gone Baby Gone (2007), Radio (2003), A Beautiful Mind (2001), and Apollo 13 (1995). I literally only named like 0.04 percent of the movies he has starred in, so please do yourself a favor and make sure that you have seen Harris in one of his beautimous moments. The Academy has granted him four nominations (just like our pal Leo) but has ultimately left him empty-handed. I mean, c'mon. Harris has been in the film industry for 35 years and quite frankly deserves a little gold guy as a friend now.

Harris's Oscar Nominations:

Best Actor in a Supporting Role- Apollo 13 (1996), The Truman Show (1999), & The Hours (2002) ; Best Actor in a Leading Role- Pollock (2001)

Ed, sweet Ed, keep doing you. Please.

7. The one and Only, Glenn Close

Hello, Academy. This is the Entire World speaking. We'd like to ask you why one of Hollywood's most prized possessions has been snubbed on six different occasions? Yes, six times. Glenn Close has starred in an extensive number of films, all underlining her talent as a divergently gifted actress. She is a trailblazer for Broadway, television, and of course the big screen. We of course know her as Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmatians (1996) and from other films such as Fatal Attraction (1987), Tarzan (1999)in which she voiced Kala, and most recently in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). She has yet to take a minute to bask in her accomplished glories, as she keeps adding new projects under her wings. Close simply will not stop until she has bestowed the beloved Oscar.

Close's Oscar Nominations:

Best Actress in a Supporting Role- The World According to Garp (1982), The Big Chill (1983), & The Natural (1984); Best Actress in a Leading Role- Fatal Attraction (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988), & Albert Nobbs (2011)

You're so close, Close! (Okay, that was a horrible joke.)

8. The Fresh Prince Will Smith

In West Philadelphia, born and raised, until Willard moved to Cali and shocked the world with his invigorating, humorous acting abilities in 1989 and has since proven increasingly how divine his talents are. He's been in my life for nearly all of my 19 years, starting as my hero in the venerated sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and working his way into some of my favorite films such as The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), Independence Day (1996), Shark Tale (2004), Hancock (2008), and this past year's Concussion. Smith has been a family favorite for his honest, yet perfectly poignant acting. His film choices have all been quite popular at the box office- I mean, Men in Black has turned into MIB 3 and potentially Will not stop- and he has yet to crash. He's been at the top for so long, and the Academy has only granted him two nominations thus far.

Smith's Oscar Nominations:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role- Ali (2002) & The Pursuit of Happyness (2007)

Will will get an Oscar, dang it.

So, my fellow Americans, we can now see that this does not have to be the end of the world of "belligerent actors without Oscar" memes. And I've only named eight of hundreds of holistic, tragically perfect actors who have yet to be awarded with the gold. (Guys, Steve Carrell, Samuel Jackson, Laura Linney, and Sigourney Weaver are all victims of this plague.) Leo was only one piece to this morose puzzle. We must make more memes. We must acknowledge that the Academy sometimes-nearly- more often than not- mostly-always -makes mistakes. And that is okay, because it gives us something to talk about on the internet.

Who will be crowned the new King/Queen of Social Media Classics that resemble these beauties?

No longer relevant. R.I.P.

Be the change, and make Leo's replacement even better.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
