To The Future Educators Of The World, Don't Give Up On Your Calling To Teach

Education was always a plan in the back of my mind but was never a career I really considered for myself.

I always knew I would grow up to major in English, but I never knew what I wanted to do with my degree. On occasion, there were a few people who would listen to me talk about teaching English with distaste. From a financial standpoint to considering different career options, I've heard it all.

There were also encouraging people who pushed me in the direction of using my English degree for teaching. To me, being a teacher has never been about money. When you find a job you are passionate about, you become so excited that money is the least of your worries. Rather than money or benefits, teaching is about further educating and inspiring our future generation.

Waking up every day to a job I love is far more important to me than how much money I am going to make.

When my students walk through my classroom, they will always have a friend first within their teacher. I will be there when they struggle and when they succeed. From bad days to good days, I can only hope to be there to mentor them. To be able to truly change the lives of my students is the reason that I want to educate, just like the teachers I had who impacted my life.

I am excited to teach all of the English classics that I love and to see my students develop a passion for English as well. I get to be there as they discover that they are might grow up to be future writers and teachers, too.

Finding out that teaching was the career I wanted to do was not easy. I changed my major so many times and fought teaching due to what other people thought about it. By the time I was a sophomore in college, I had changed my major seven times. Finally, I gave in and found that I had finally picked the right major for me.

I am thankful that I tried different majors, rather than to have been stuck in the wrong field. I discovered that through all of these different careers, the one I had never really considered would ironically be the one.

For any aspiring teacher, you will have others come at you with every excuse as to why teaching isn't an ideal career.

If you truly have a passion and a gift to educate others, don't let that stop you. Having a heart that is called to teach only means that it is big enough to fulfill just that. Consider all of the little minds you will get to shape and the lives you get to impact.

Teaching isn't an easy job, but at the end of the day, it is so worth it. To educate is rewarding, and I am looking forward to it being my lifelong career.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.

15 Things That Happen On Your Birthday

Do you have a small get-together or throw a big bash?

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.
