So, I know we all start off our day differently. Some start their day at night and others start in the morning. Whenever you decide to start your day, I have a few tips to help your day start off right. Use these tips and you'll wake up feeling like sunshine!

1. Immediately Make your Bed

The first step to feeling like sunshine is to immediately make your bed. Don't think about anything else but making sure your bed looks pretty. Make sure the fitted sheet is on. Make sure the regular sheet is on and make sure to smooth that comforter out. Arrange your pillows and have fun with it. Make sure you have on your beautiful smile. It will check one thing off your list and make you feel accomplished. Feeling accomplished means wanting to complete more tasks.

2. Turn on that Feel-Good Music

The second step is to turn on that music that makes you want to dance or sing at the top of your lungs. This will start you off in a good mood and will get your blood pumping. When your blood is pumping, you start to get energized. You start to smile more and get into a vibe. You can take this time to fix up your room if need be. You can have a 5 minute dance session. Anything you want to do at this moment is fair game. Don't check your phone though. That's off limits for right now. Just make sure you're feeling good and your heart is pumping.

3. Drink a glass of water

After all that dancing and possibly off-key singing, you've probably worked up a sweat. This part is probably one of the most important parts of your morning. Drinking a glass of water will allow you to feel refreshed and full of sunshine. This can kickstart your digestive system and begin waking your body up. Doing this before eating anything else will make you re-think what you're going to have for breakfast. In my case, I was ready to have some toaster strudels. But, knowing I started with water, I add a side of fruit with that to continue the "healthy" wave.

4. Make your To-Do List

I know, I know, a to-do list seems like its too much work for just waking up. But, this will help your organize the day and prioritize what needs to get done. The list doesn't have to be every single task you need to do. But, the most important things need to go on that list. For example, homework assignments that are due, important test and possible study times, and work need to go on the list. Anything that you deem important needs to be written down. This will also give you a sense of accomplishment that will make you want to tackle those tasks.

5. Check your Phone

Give yourself 10-15 minutes to check your phone. This can be Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat or Tik-Tok. Whatever you need to check you check. This is your time to use your device for things other than work. When you give yourself this time to check all those things, you won't feel guilty. You will be up and about so you want check your socials then roll back over. It is key to do this after everything else because you are more likely to actually start your day.

These are tips that are helpful to me and I hope that they are of some assistance to you. I hope that you will find your own rountine that works for you!

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
