1. Take a walk.
We all need to take a break and get some fresh air. Step outside and take a walk, even if it is just for 10 minutes. Burnout is real, and you want to make sure that you are functioning at your best. Walking may also help you come up with new ideas for your papers and stimulate your brain in a positive way.
2. Stop studying 30 minutes before you go to bed.
This one might be a hard one to commit to, but clearing your mind is key. After studying all day, rest is essential to optimizing the material you comprehend. It can also help you be less overwhelmed. Take a a few moments to do your favorite self-care activity. My favorite self-care activity is lighting a candle and taking a hot shower.
3. Make sure to hydrate throughout the day.
As most of us are working online, it is even more important to stay hydrated. The recommended amount of water each day is eight 8 ounce glasses. Drinking enough water each day will help keep your eyes healthy and not dried out. It will also help prevent headaches that come from blue light.
4. Create a checklist of what you need and what you want.
It is important to prioritize your needs over wants. For me, checklists have been an essential part of how I organize my school and personal life. Besides the satisfaction of crossing off the things you complete, you will stay on track with what you need to do. Having a separate checklists of wants will be really helpful when you need to take a break from studying and switch on to you time.
5. Ask for help.
Seek out your school's resources! It is more than okay to ask for help when you need it. Whether it be talking to an academic coach, tutor, counselor, or friend, seeking support is one of the best ways to help de-stress, especially before finals week. Having a support system and asking for help will only benefit you in the long run!
