True Love and Everlasting Life

The Heavenly Helpers

“Adelaide, Adelaide, wake up, sweetie. The doctor needs to clean your wound and change your bandages. Confusion washed over Adelaide. Bandages? A picture of Blake’s face flashed into her mind, and she jolted up in bed. Sharp pain shot through her ribs. Glancing down, she saw that there were bandages wrapped around her ribs below her chest. She lied back down gently and looked at her mother.

“Mom, he’s gone”, Adelaide said with a quivering lip. Tears filled her eyes, and she began to sob. Her mother grabbed onto her hand and cradled her daughter’s head as her daughter cried. The doctor walked out of the room for a moment to give the mother and her daughter some privacy. Adelaide’s sobs turned into screams, screams for her love who died. However, the screams for her love turned into screams of great pain. Her mother looked down at the bandages and saw the red that was bleeding through. The mother frantically yelled for the doctor to come back into the room. When the doctor saw what was wrong, he immediately went to work not offering any explanation for what was going on. He quickly undid the bandages. Blood flowed from the wound. Just what he had thought—Adelaide’s screaming had caused her punctured lung wound to hemorrhage. He began to shout orders to anyone that was close enough to hear him. He would do all he could to save her.

-------------------------------

Adelaide opened her eyes slowly. Everything was blurry for a split second before she realized where she was again. She was in the dark forest again. Looking to her right, she searched for the tree she had rested at before and ran towards it. The same wet, tattered dress she was wearing before was now a pristine white. Her golden hair flowed behind her, and her blue eyes became brighter. She ran past the tree with a smile on her face. She saw the light again, and her smile broadened because she knew what was just beyond that light. Her eyes fell immediately on Blake as she ran through the light. She approached him slowly. Reaching him, she ran her delicate fingers up his chest and neck to his lovely face, moving her fingers over his features, starting with his eyes, moving to his nose, and ending with his soft lips. Leaning in, she kissed his lips. She felt his hands entwined in her golden hair. He lengthened the kiss before pulling away and resting his forehead on hers.

“You came back,” Blake said.

“I missed you. Of course I came back,” Adelaide said.

“I thought you weren't going too,” Blake said.

“I would never leave you alone,” Adelaide said. Staring into his eyes, she was mesmerized by the love in his eyes. She always loved him, but now it felt purer to her, and it was an intoxicating feeling.

“I love you so much, Adelaide. We’ll be happy here together forever in our own paradise,” Blake said. He cupped her face with his hands.

“I love you too, Blake,” she said. Adelaide felt such peace and joy there with Blake. She was overjoyed to spend forever with him. Their paradise may have been small, but they didn't need anything grand. All they needed was each other, and that was enough to fill forever for them.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
