The Electronic Dance Music (EDM) world just concluded one of the biggest annual weeks ever. From the pre-parties at Las Vegas strip hotels to the actual festival itself, the community embarked on (what my boyfriend named) "The New Woodstock." Perhaps dance music has gotten so popular, that a new generation now has their version of that famed festival.
As written before, the Quantum Valley stage by Dreamstate featuring trance music was this year's newest stage for eager fans of the sub-genre. Despite some flaws (tent, sound quality), it is safe to say that the line-up and vibes provided by trance family as well as those discovering this music were successful. Featuring trance all three nights at the event was a long time coming after last year's Sunday night feature.
However, the beauty of Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is the diversity of stages and people in attendance. Thus, stopping by Kinetic Field (main stage), or enjoying the vibes with others at Neon Garden (techno) only enhanced the experience. The event is well staffed, but could use a few improvements to alleviate problems with wait times. Despite those issues, the access to water throughout should not be taken lightly. Yes, this is in response to sad news of a death.
One of the best things is meeting new people, connecting throughout sets, trading kandi, waving flags proudly, and seeing the reactions of those whose mind is blown from the experience. Just like many other communities, there may be differences, but overall the dance music community has it right. The world should be more inclusive like this to prevent future conflicts.
