Ed Sheeran's Divide: Review
mic.com

Ed Sheeran's newest album, Divide, came out in February. He has the ability to transport you through different whirlwinds of emotion with each new song. He's mastered the ballad, and I hate that I get sucked into each and every love song. But the combination of his voice and his way with words gets me every time.

I'm not a music major, but here's my non-technical, song-by-song review of Divide – here's just what I'm hearing:

1. Eraser

My favorite part of this song is the chorus. When it ends, I find myself wanting to go back and hear it again. Something about the tone and melody combined with the honesty in the line, "I'm well aware of certain things that will destroy a man like me / but with that said give me one more" We all have vices and things or people that we know are bad for us but we indulge ourselves anyway. This song in a word: honest.

2. Castle on the Hill

This song is driving through country roads in the summer with your high school friends and the windows down. It's nostalgia and freedom and history all in one. One thing I love about Ed Sheeran's music is that he can take a specific situation and location and make it connect to everyone.

3. Dive

This song is bluesy and kinda soulful and perfectly represents the hesitance that can come from a beginning of a new relationship.

4. Shape of You

I'm not super in love with this one. It's kinda just an average pop song but it's super catchy, so I won't skip it if it comes on. Every album needs a banger that is more upbeat and dance-y.

5. Perfect

I think the title speaks for itself on this one. This is one of my favorites on the entire album.

6. Galway Girl

Somehow this song combines pop and Irish influences in a great way, and I don't understand half the references, but the melody is great. The line "she plays the fiddle in an Irish band / but she fell in love with an English man" will be stuck in your head all day.

7. Happier

This song is so incredibly sad. It makes me miss my nonexistent ex and conveys such a sense of longing, but there's a conflict within that.

8. New Man

This song makes me laugh. The line, "He's got his eyebrows plucked and his asshole bleached" is probably my favorite. I love the pettiness in this song. I especially love how he uses instrumentation in the chorus to make it stick more.

9. Hearts Don't Break Around Here

This song is so freaking cute it makes me mad.

"That every night I’ll kiss you, you’ll say in my ear
Oh we’re in love aren’t we?
Hands in your hair, fingers and thumbs baby
I feel safe when you’re holding me near
Love the way that you conquer your fear
You know hearts don’t break around here"

Just the way that he sings it makes you feel like you're in love.

10. What Do I Know?

This song is so bouncy and feel-good and maybe a bit naive, but who's gonna disagree with "love and understanding, positivity?" It makes you feel like world peace is just around the corner.

11. How Would You Feel (Paean)

Another beautiful love song that he's so damn good at. How is Ed Sheeran not married, honestly?

12. Supermarket Flowers

The first time I heard this song it made me cry, and I don't cry very easily. You have now officially been warned.

13. Barcelona

I feel like I'm riding through the streets of Spain in summer on a moped when I hear this, and it makes me want to dance. The way that he incorporated Spanish feels so natural and enhances the song so much.

14. Bibia Be Ye Ye

This song was written in Ghana with a band from there. The title means "All Will Be Well" in Twi, the native language there. That's exactly how the song makes you feel. It's feel good, summer montage music.

15. Nancy Mulligan

This song is so Irish that when I was playing it in my room, a few of my floor mates came in and starting doing an Irish jig. But it's such a good story and so catchy, and I love the way he says "religion" with 4 syllables.

16. Save Myself

He just sounds so broken in this song. It's so honest and raw and makes you remember any time you've ever felt alone or drained.

This album is a crazy rollercoaster of emotions, and I highly recommend it to literally anyone. There were seven people with completely different music tastes sitting in my room tonight while I played it in the background. We talked about every single song that came on and listened to the album for hours on end.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
