Friday January 6 will go down in musical history as the day that Ed Sheeran finally ended his year-long hiatus and returned to the music scene with not one, but TWO brand new singles. Everyone's favorite British ginger announced he would be dropping off the grid December 13, 2015 via Twitter and Instagram posts, but Sheeran assured everyone he would be back in one year's time.
Sticking to his promises, Sheeran returned to social media last month exactly one year, to the actual minute, since he took his hiatus, with a few vague posts of some solid blue squares that would soon set the theme for his new era of music. Last week he followed up this mysterious announcement of sorts with the confirmation that he would be releasing new music, and he has been welcomed back with open arms.
In his appearance on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show Friday morning, he discussed his upcoming new album, "Divide," and officially introduced his new singles, "Shape of You" and "Castle On the Hill." Both songs were immediately the talk of the Twitter-verse, and it's clear that Sheeran's fans didn't lose their loyalty during his year-long break. The tracks shot to the top of the Itunes charts immediately upon release, and are still resting comfortably at #1 and #2.
Even after receiving all of the love post-return, Ed still isn't giving us a date of when exactly the album will be released, but he promises it IS coming. His next interview is scheduled for about two weeks from now, so maybe we will get an official date then. In the meantime, however, keep your eyes peeled and be on the lookout for a whole new masterpiece from the British king of music.
Oh, and Ed.... please never leave us again.
