It's that moment when you spot the most perfect top to go with THOSE jeans and it's only $15?! Now, flash forward to six months down the road. The top is officially out of season, it's had its moment, lived its life, enjoyed it's parties and even has an ugly stain on it. So, you throw it out or it will sit in the back of your closet until you find it again years later.
That's usually the quick story of the usual, ordinary piece of fast fashion clothing item. What is Fast Fashion? It's the normal stores, a majority of people shop at like: H&M, Zara, Fashion Nova, Forever 21 and more. These stores that have a high production rate and are underpaying workers around the world in places like South and Central America, Asia, and Europe. These stores are also a major part in the world's growing rate of pollution. Fortunately, there are multiple things you can do and places you can shop where the environment can be helped kept preserved.
1. Donate
Its the simplest form of not only helping the environment but also ensuring the item is going to its full potential where someone else would be more than grateful for it.
2. Selling Your Clothes
There are unlimited amounts of apps and websites to sell any unused or used clothing items. You may not get the full amount you paid for it originally but why not at least get half back?
3. Shop at clothing stores that make efforts to protect the Environment
Some clothing stores are becoming more environmentally aware as they realize what a major part their industry is doing. Next time you are shopping, look for bins that may say 'recycle your jeans'. H&M is one of the first of the major chain of fashion retailers to speak up on the massive issue. Their website states, "When you drop off unwanted textiles in an H&M store, you'll get rewarded with a voucher."
It's perfectly okay to shop at any one of these stores, as I do it too because their less expensive prices are easily affordable. When the item is no longer in your favor, or not wearable because it is battered or beaten just donate or recycle.
