This past Saturday, January 28, 2017, marked twenty years that my grandfather, Sinclair Tuttle, has been gone. I miss him dearly, each and every day. He was an amazing man, with so many wonderful qualities. He was a sailor, a Mason, a wonderful husband, loving father, and most of all he was the first man I ever really loved. He will always be a part of me. I wrote this poem as a tribute to him and everything he was to my whole family. I think it can speak to anyone who has lost someone dear to them though and so I hope it speaks to you. Never forget to love deeply, completely, and without trepidation. You never know when your whole world will change.
Always in my memory,
Always on my mind,
Just a little reminder of a much simpler time.
Your sly little smile,
Your silly little laugh,
Just an echo of days long past.
The pennies in your pocket,
The Bible in your hands,
Just a small memento of such a great man.
The silver on your car,
The silver in your hair,
Sometimes you not being seems so unfair.
The date on my calendar,
The finality of it all,
Sometimes the weight of the world makes me feel so small.
Always in my memory,
Always on my mind,
Just a little reminder of a much simpler time.
