Are we Eating the Products of Rape?

A cruel truth behind the foods we eat.

In an article published by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the group discussed how animals such as cows, pigs and turkeys are raped in order to produce enough products to send to the slaughter house. These animals are forced to have babies. These newborns are taken away from their mothers almost right away to be sent to slaughter for our consumption.

When a human is forcibly and involuntarily violated sexually, it’s called “rape.” When animals on factory farms are forcibly and involuntary violated sexually, it’s called “artificial insemination.”

Like human mothers who produce milk for their newborn children, cows produce milk to feed their young. You can call milk producing cows mother cows. However, these mothers lose their child almost days, even hours after birth. Cows are also forced to produce yearly so that they can have their milk collected. They produce four times as much milk as cows did in the 1950's.

PETA described the process of making the cows produce. "In order to force them to produce as much milk as possible, farmers typically impregnate cows every year using a device that the industry calls a “rape rack.” To impregnate a cow, a person jams his or her arm far into the cow’s rectum in order to locate and position the uterus and then forces an instrument into her vagina. The cow is defenseless to stop this violation."

Pigs and turkeys share similar cruel stories when it comes to reproduction. Pigs are kept in small cages when they are pregnant, these cages are so small that the pig cannot even turn around. Turkeys have been so genetically modified that these farm raised turkeys cannot breed on their own. "Turkeys are bred, drugged, and genetically manipulated to grow as large as possible as quickly as possible to increase profits. In 1970, the average turkey weighed 17 pounds at slaughter. Today, turkeys weigh 28 pounds. According to one industry publication, modern turkeys grow so quickly that if a 7-pound human baby grew at the same rate, the infant would weigh 1,500 pounds at just 18 weeks of age. Because turkeys are now so obese that they can’t reproduce naturally, those born today were conceived through forced artificial insemination."

There's a cruel price for the way we eat. The more these meats are in demand, the more they have to kill.

All information comes from PETA. I am simply spreading the message to more viewers.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
