Does pasta really taste better in Italy?
The answer to this is: Oh my god yes!!! From one pasta lover to another, if you have not tried pasta in Italy it is time that you get your butt over there! Not only is the pasta good, but the gelato is honestly the best dessert I’ve ever tasted. From all different types of fruit flavors to coffee flavors and even wine flavored gelato. The best part of when you are traveling with a group of girls is that everyone would get different flavors and you got the chance to try everyone’s gelato! What more could you ask for?! But anyways, back to the pasta!
During my time abroad I had the opportunity to go to Italy for a whole week! Our first stop was in Venice. Why not start at the top and make our way to the bottom? While we were strolling around Venice after having the worst night of ours lives due to having to sleep in the train station since our AirBnB cancelled on us, one could say it was time to sit down and fill our tummy’s with some true Italian food.
While I was looking at the menu at the outdoor café, I was stuck between choosing spaghetti with pomodoro sauce or gnocchi with pesto, obviously I went for the spaghetti because why not really get a true sense of how pasta should taste. My God, this the best thing I’ve ever tasted. All of the flavors from the sauce, to the parmesan cheese, and the true al denete pasta. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. After the day was coming to an end, it was time to say “addio” (good-bye) to Venice and “ciao” (hello) to Florence.
Once again the group of girls I was with ran into another “pickle” with our Air Bnb due to the host stating we had the place for the following night. After some tears and screams everything came together and we all ended up staying at a hostel. This being only my second time ever staying in one, I was skeptical about the whole hostel situation and having to stay with random people in a home. It fortunately turned out to be just fine and I was able to experience a great night of sleep in a bed instead of a chair like the previous night.
As soon as the sun came up we were ready to take on the big beautiful city of Florence. After strolling through markets full of handmade Italian leather purses, munching on croissants, and sipping espresso the day was coming to an end and it was time for dinner. Yet again, what did I want for my meal?… Yes, that’s right, pasta please! This time I tried pasta that is also considered a soup, Pasta Fogoli. This was very interesting because I got the best of both worlds, not only could I get pasta but soup as well and they were served together! I could not get enough of this. After a few more bits and glasses of wine, it was time to head to our AirBnB. Finally, this one worked out and we could finally feel like real humans again and use a nice clean shower and get into a comfy bed. The next stop was to the beautiful place that Lizzie McGuire went on her summer vacation, La Roma, aka Rome!
After a quick few hours of on-and-off sleep on the all mighty Mega Bus we arrived in Rome. This time there was no problems with our AirBnb and it was time to cram in a few more hours of sleep before adventure time! Once we all were showered it was time be like Lizzie and Gordo and see and do as much as possible in the one day. Before we knew it, it was night and time to grab dinner once again. We decide to go somewhere near our Airbnb because we were all so tired from exploring all day, and decided to choose this place that had pictures of the Pope all over the place. Here I decided to choose something a little different then pasta and got pizza. Have to say was not my favorite thing but luckily my friend to the right of me got gnocchi so I munched off her plate because it was too darn good. Off to our next stop it was, Naples!
We got here pretty late so we decided to pick up some food up and eat in. We ended up grabbing fresh bread and some kind of cheese that tasted amazing and to top it off, we grabbed tomato’s. Oh, and of course some wine. By this time, we were at the end of our trip and way over our budget for the week so we opted for the cheaper wine and it tasted as good as a $30-dollar bottle. One of my biggest regrets was not buying more and taking it home with me! We all sat around our dinner table at the AirBnB and laughed over some stories we were telling each other. Once we all got up the next day, it was off to Capri.
If you’re not familiar with this place it is a little island off of Italy. Also, if you ever get the chance to go, you MUST take that opportunity. Not only was the pasta as good as the one I had in Venice, the island was my favorite place of all. From the amazing generosity of the people who lived there, to the beauty that the island held all on its own, I could not get enough of this place. But back to the pasta! I opted for fettuccine with a red sauce with freshly shaved parmesans cheese. This was by far the best! Yum, Yum, Yum. As the day came to an end it was time for us to gather up all of our belongings and head back to the airport to get to the beloved city of London. I will forever remember the amazing experiences and journeys this trip had to offer. And of course the pasta! Italy, you will always have a place in my heart and I can not wait to get back and eat the worlds best pasta.
