You've been waiting for winter break for weeks now. You got in small arguments with your friends from school after being around them so much, you were getting sick of the same dining hall food, and you had it with that professor that continues to assign papers. The work is piling up, and all you really need some cuddles from your puppy and a few relaxing nights with some hometown friends. Everything is going great! You are enjoying the holidays and spending time with friends and not having to do any homework. Then, January hits and if your hometown is anything like mine, you are stuck in the middle of the woods in Massachusetts stabbing your eyes out in boredom as the days drag past. You are counting down the days until you return to school, but in the meantime you have to find something to do before you go insane.

1. Craft; craft if you are artsy, craft if you aren't artsy. There are a million options to chose from, and you can even check pinterest, which is loaded with ideas using items you most likely already have! It's a great indoor activity and it can be done alone or with friends!

2. Read; remember that cool book you've always wanted to read that everyone kept telling you about? Well now is the perfect time to head to your local library to check out the book! You might even find that you can't put it down!

3. Make the food from tasty videos; Yes, I saw you watching those videos at school, well now's your chance to make them! You no longer have just a microwave, instead you have an entire kitchen with cooking ingredients at your disposal, so use it! Maybe you'll find a new favorite recipe!

4. Join a gym, or workout in your basement; This is the perfect time to lose some of the weight you gained in college! (It's okay, it happens to everyone, and I know you couldn't refuse that 3 am pizza last weekend, trust me, it's okay). You have free time galore so you might as well try to be productive and work off that weight! You'll also feel good about yourself

5. Visit with relatives; You haven't seen many of them for months, so if they within driving distance, hop in your car and head on your way! Pop in a favorite playlist, bring a friend or sibling and you are off on a great adventure that you'll be sure to tell your school friends about!

Winter break is long, but you should definitely find a way to enjoy it (besides working). There are so many more things to do than you know, and sometimes all it takes is a little patience and some thinking and you'll have a winter break worth telling about! On the bright side, at least you aren't currently falling asleep in class!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
