Throughout the past few months, parents have been having to home school the children through the COVID. I have been doing daycare for essential workers. Due to this, we have created learning centers for our children. These centers are 15-minute rotations that students participate in. It usually consists of an art project, science experiment, learning activity, sensory activity, or play centers. Below is a way for you to create a sensory center in your own home for cheap.
My Sensory Center Kit
How to Create A Sensory Kit From Dollar Store Items
1. Find some plastic Tupperware for storage for your sensory kit.
2. Purchase some sand, fishbowl rocks, beads, moon sand, or any other related item for the substance in your sensory kit. These items for 3-7-year-old aged children can help with fine motor skills, sensory exposure, calm a child's anxiety or restlessness.
3. Add some little plastic or rubber toys or other items to create more of play experience for your child. You can also add little shovels or rakes to create a more calming sensory experience.
4. Purchase the metal cake pans, which you can purchase from the dollar store, so you can dumb your contents in it. This will give the child more space to play around and move around the sand within the sensory activity.
Then you are finished creating your at-home sensory kit. This has helped my children a lot in the classroom and childcare center. I would recommend it for any children that need a break from their school work or a way to expose your child to different sensory options. I made 4 mini kits which created 2 sensory centers for less than $10. It is cheap and affordable and helps many children in many different ways.
