Christmas is less than a week away, and if you haven't gotten your shopping done, now is the time! Deciding what to buy can be tricky, but the stores are generally packed all the way to Christmas Eve! You've got options! If you're stumped on what to get someone or don't want to spend hours shopping in the mall this holiday season, consider making your gifts! Not only are Do-It-Yourself (DIY) gifts fun to make, they are a thoughtful way of spreading holiday cheer. They are also relatively inexpensive! Here are five easy DIYs you can do this Christmas!

1. Personalized Picture Frames

Who doesn't love pictures? Personalized pictures frames are a great way to share a memorable moment or picture. I first created one as a present for my college best friend's graduation. She graduated with her BSN so I personalized it with nursing stickers like band aids, a stethoscope, the caduceus, and other nursing and medical symbols. It was the cutest thing! It was so fun to make that I decided I would continue to make more personalized frames for people! I made the one above for a friend's baby shower. I bought all the supplies from Michael's and I don't think I spent more than $10! You can literally decorate it how you like!

2. Baked Goods

If you like to bake this will be a fun easy one for you! The holidays are a great time to whip up something yummy. You can bake cookies, cakes, and everything in between! If you want to get creative, sites like Pinterest have festive recipes that you can follow. If you want to stick to the basics, you can buy all types of mixes from your local grocery store. Red Velvet and Fudge are popular Christmas time desserts that you can think about making. You can find Christmas themed tins at stores like The Dollar Tree or Walmart to package your desserts in.

3. Crocheted Scarves

If you don't know how to crochet, this DIY may be a little more difficult for you to do, but it's not hard to learn at all! Scarves are a simple project for beginners because a basic rectangle pattern is pretty easy to follow and create. You have the option to chose any kind and color of yarn and create single or multicolored scarves. I love to make school inspired scarves like the one I made above (Go Skegee!), but any color or combo is fine. How long and wide is up to you just make sure you have enough time to finish it! After you're finished, throw it in a pretty bag or box and it's ready to put under the tree!

4. Personalized Wine Glasses

Many people enjoy a glass of wine after a long day. If you know someone or have friends who enjoy wine, why not make them a personalized wine glass that they can add to their collection! If you would like to make a set or make some for a group, you can typically find a set of glasses at stores like Walmart or Target. Use stickers, glitter, paints, sharpies, or other craft supplies to decorate the glasses. You can find ideas and tutorials like the one above on Pinterest.

5. Mason Jar Cocktails

This last idea I think is especially great if you have guy friends( that are of age of course) you want to make gifts for. It's very simple to make. All you need is a mason jar, the 7.5 oz soda cans, miniature bottles of alcohol, and cute little straws. An non-alcoholic alternative to this is creating hot chocolate mugs. You simply provide the ingredients -hot chocolate mix, marshmallows, sprinkles etc.- and place them in a mason jar or cute bottle or mug. I found this cute idea and instructions on Something Turquoise!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
