Eastpointe Pictures Just Released A Preview Of Metagame
And it looks amazing.
Just for the record, if you enjoy Super Smash Bros. in any setting, you should know about Eastpointe Pictures. The documentary team has a YouTube channel of their own where you can see the 2013 hit feature, The Smash Brothers, for free. Besides being a wonderful experience, the film will help you delve into a community that has long been underground, though very much alive and thriving: competitive Smash.
The trailer appears to mainly follow the player Joseph Marquez, known as MaNG0 in tournaments, as he fights through several brackets in Pound 3 from February 2008. After a few excerpts, it starts with the player losing his place in the winner’s bracket. After that, the music kicks in, and images of MaNG0 winning matchup after matchup flow in. The hype this trailer incites in its viewer is comparable to actually being present to this tournament. Clearly, this film is not going to be any less of a gem than its predecessor.
In addition to the topic of MaNG0, we see the presence of other players, such as Mew2King and PC Chris; we see the considerations of Melee against Brawl; we see a community that focuses on players so much that the pressure is always on. What predictions can be made about this film?
Hopefully, the creators will have delved deeply into the Dark Age; a time when the player base shifted from Melee to the new game of the time, Brawl. It would also be good to see even more of the immersive narratives that The Smash Brothers was known for. The previous film was only able to closely follow the stories of eight Smashers. This time around, there may be an opportunity to talk about others such as Armada, Leffen, and even PPMD, who has yet to appear in the series.
Metgame is set to release sometime this winter, 2017. View the video here.
