What Easter Meant This Year

Easter has been here! Devoting these past 40 days to prayer, reflecting on our relationships with Christ, and eliminating temptations that stray us away from the Lord has shaped and prepared us live out the joy of Easter. We are, again, reminded of our gift of eternal life. How blessed we are, how loved we are! Jesus has risen, it is our time to rejoice with every word we speak and action we do.

It is our time to spread Jesus’ love for us and live out the joy we have for our salvation. However, the amount of love Jesus has for us may seem difficult to fathom. His love is so great that He surrendered His own life to save ours. Astonishing, yet true. How can we live out His love in our lives? How can we guide others to feel joy during this Easter season too?

Christ’s love should be celebrated. Mother Teresa said, “Joy is a net of love in which you can catch souls.” This is one of my favorite quotations and extremely powerful words to be reminded of during this Easter Season.

Being joyful is infectious; it is spreading God’s love and allowing it to be expressed through us. It is possible to spread His love wherever you may go. Through daily encounters with friends, giving extra time to someone in need, lending a hand or a patient ear is a sign of Christ’s love. We, in a smaller essence yet still very significant, can give of ourselves to others like Christ did.

Sacrificing time by devoting it to a friend in need is living out His love. We can spread our joy through attentiveness to how others best receive love. Whether a friend is in need of affirmation, a hug, or a smile, being there for others is helping them and us live out love. The love we share with others can be humbling to both give and receive.

As busy students and young adults wrapped up in our lives, every moment someone shares with you are moments worth treasuring and celebrating. Christ gave us life after death. Our joy and generosity through that love is our praise and gift back to Him. Some tribulations may make it more challenging to truly celebrate this Easter season. However, love is captivating, and Christ’s love for us enthralls us to share it to those who we care for.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
