Growing up in the United States as a child of immigrant parents, exposure to multiple cultures has been inevitable. I have lived a lifestyle that has been influenced by my Indian heritage along with my New York culture.

As an Indian American, the cultures that I had at my disposable, today have become of my personal self-identification. There are many things that I find enjoyable from the United States, and from India. Being in the United States, the availablity of both cultures to the food, television, and entertainment business is at my disposal at all times. However, the thing that I truly enjoy revolves around the entertainment business. I believe that Hollywood and Bollywood are two big industries that allow everyone to keep enjoying themselves.

From connecting to the lyrics in the music and enjoying the beats, to watching indian movies, and even indulging within the shows on Netflix; I have found myself enjoying every last bit.

But, here's why I love Bollywood:

  1. The movies! I just love the clothes! The traditional clothes that many of the actresses wear in the films just amazes me every single time. I love the clothing and wish I could wear some of the outfits.
  2. The music. I have found music that keeps me going on a daily basis. I love the music in the films and songs that are created within the Bollywood industry. My love for music has been established even further with many rising new artists from North America/UK, creating sounds that fuse the sounds established within Bollywood and Hollywood. Artists like Prophec, Mickey Singh, & Rahat Fateh Ali Khan keep me company especially on my daily commutes.

As an American, I love so much that Hollywood has to offer. Here are some of the aspects that I love about Hollywood:

  1. I love the R&B music that was released in the early 2000s. Some of the artists that I love include, Justin Timberlake and Keri Hilson. The music allowed me to truly connect with the lyrics that were being written.
  2. The movies are amazing, but it's the television shows that keep me coming back for more. I love some of the shows that are no longer on television, and some that keep me coming back every season. Shows like "CSI: NY," "Gossip Girl," 'Once Upon a Time," and "White Collar" keep me locked within my love for Hollywood.

Being of two different cultures always keeps excited about learning and further adapting to the two different worlds. To have both cultures at my disposal is an honor, and something everyone should be proud of. This connection allows me to move with the world, and keep my roots along with me.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
