Earth day is upon us.
Every year on April 22, millions of Americans choose to celebrate mama earth and all of her beauty. We celebrate earth day by banding together to pick up trash and plant some trees.
People take this one day to try and prove how eco-friendly they are.
Many use earth day as somewhat of a new years resolution but with recycling. On this day, they swear that they are going to use that reusable water bottle they bought last year, or they promise they are going to start recycling.
But the truth is, for many these promises are only temporary.
Now, don't get me wrong. I aim to be earth friendly and I admire those who live with an everyday sustainable lifestyle.
But, what happens on April 23rd?
Well, most people go back to their normal non-eco-friendly habits. The promise of recycling and the vow to not litter all fly out the window.
To be honest, I feel that planting trees and community trash pickups are brilliant ideas. But why limit them to one day out of the entire year? Why limit our appreciation for the earth to one day?
We should take a little time every day to think about how lucky we are to live on such a beautiful planet. We are blessed with beautiful flowers every spring and fluffy white snow in the winter.
The earth provides us with extraordinary sights like the Grand Canyon, the Great Lakes, the rainforests, etc. So, instead of loving the earth for one day, we should be thankful for the earth every day.
Animals are going extinct and their habitats are being destroyed all because of our lack of consideration for the earth. We do not own the earth, instead, we live in harmony with it.
We are not separate from nature. We are a part of nature.
So why not choose paper over plastic every day?
