February 4th, 2018 was a day to remember for football fans across the globe. A captivating underdog victory against the power house New England Patriots gave fans everywhere what they wanted. Sadly for Patriots fans, this loss may mark the beginning of the end for the completely dominant Patriots legacy. Star tight end already stated he is unsure if he will return next season.
That is amongst rumors of Head Coach Bill Belichick possibly retiring or moving somewhere else. Another wildcard for the Patriots moving forward is Quarterback Tom Brady. He is now over 40 years old and his wife has made many public statements about her wanting Tom to retire. Despite all the rumors, there must be respect given when it is earned. The Philadelphia Eagles did what no one expected them to do. Carson Wentz got them the record they needed in order to ensure home-field advantage in the playoffs; Nick Foles sealed the deal. Eagles receivers Alshon Jeffrey, Torrey Smith, Zach Ertz, and many more stepped up when their number was called; and it paid off for them. They brought the first ever Lombardi Trophy to Philly. Philadelphia has been having parades all week and players like Jason Kelce have been vividly outspoken about how happy they are with their Super Bowl victory. They did what no one believed they could do. This was an underdog story for the ages; which explains why some Eagles players wore dog masks after their playoff victories to signify that they are the clear underdogs.
Eagles fans have waited a century for this. Now that they finally obtained their ultimate goal, they need to focus on maintaining their head of speed and come into next season even stronger. For New England, there obviously needs to be a change in regard to who has the power in the organization. Who has the loudest voice? Brady? Belichick? Kraft? They need to figure themselves out or their Patriots legacy is over. Everyone loves an underdog story, especially when the underdogs had to overcome so many injuries. Now that the game is over, it is time to focus on the offseason. The NFL draft (April 26th) plus free agency is around the corner. I can't wait to see who wins it all next year!
