With the release of DOOM and the announcement of a first ever Call of Duty: Remaster, this seems to be the year of sequels, reboots, and remasters, and I don’t think that trend will be changing anytime soon. With E3 right around the corner, we could see some amazing games returning to the spotlight after a long hiatus. Last year it was the Final Fantasy VII remake that made headlines, and game companies are going to have a lot of trouble this year trying to constantly top what has already been announced by rival companies. Perhaps VALVe will finally learn to count to three? Maybe we will witness a rebirth of older games such as Crash Bandicoot? Many rumors point other places, such as God of War 4, Watch Dogs 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, and a new superhero title to follow up the conclusion of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham video game series.
Some video game developers have confirmed announcements at E3. For the CAPCOM fans, all signs point to a new Resident Evil game being announced. The game seems to be returning to the roots of which the game started off on genre-wise, instead of the shooter game it has come to today. Science Fiction movie fans will be happy to learn that Visceral, the company behind Dead Space and Battlefield Hardline, has been working on a Star Wars title. The company hasn’t been doing so great since the original Dead Space game, but a Star Wars game could turn things around.
There is rumor that Virtual Reality will be the highlight of the expo. With hardware such as Playstation VR to come out later this year, we could see a ton of new VR game announcements for both Playstation 4 and PC. With No Man’s Sky being delayed for another 2 months past the original announced release date, and smaller simulator games becoming all the rage for fans of any popular Youtube gamer, VR booths will almost certainly be included at E3.
Aside from video game announcements, it seems as if all 3 major console developers will be showing off their console upgrades. The Sony Playstation “4.5” is rumored to feature the ability to reach 4K resolution. XBOX is dedicated to making an upgraded XBOX One console that can last forever by selling pieces that can be plugged into specialized ports on the console to upgrade speed, performance, and graphics. Nintendo seems to be keeping the public in the dark about their “NX” console, but it is rumored to be something of which the world has not seen before.
As for outlets, you can follow any video game news announcements on Facebook pages associated with developers, on Twitter, or on Youtube, which will be hosting a Youtube Gaming E3 dashboard on the website where people can keep up with the expo for the duration of the event. There will also be developer interviews, live streams, and articles by video game news companies who will more than likely be attending the event.
