That's right. If you have $600,000 to spare and the desire to live in a fancy English town, your dream could be coming true. The home used in the filming of the "Harry Potter" movies as 4 Privet Drive is now for sale in real life. The house is actually located in Bracknell in Berkshire, a town just 25 miles from London, and the home to the parents of the Duchess of Cambridge.
The home was used for filming of the first "Harry Potter" film, but in the later movies, a set was built for shots of the Dursley's home. In fact, the house was used for filming for a mere two weeks for the entire series. However, the house and neighborhood have apparently gotten lots of attention over the years, and are sure to get much more now that the famous home is on the market.
It's listed at $620,000 or 475,000 pounds, and has three bedrooms and a nice yard. And the best part? This house has a cupboard under the stairs, just as you were hoping it would. Because of the intense hype over this house, the realtor decided to set up a "launch day" on September 24, when all interested potential applicants can begin viewing the home.
This "Harry Potter"-related news is just the next in a long line of headlines that seem to prove that this franchise will never die (and I'm so happy about it). Just a few days ago, J.K. Rowling put a new quiz on Pottermore that lets you discover your Patronus (yes, people are understandably freaking out).
In the past few months, of course, the latest "Harry Potter" book, "The Cursed Child", has made huge headlines and gotten mixed reviews. Some people consider it to be an "8th" book in the series, while others felt it was more like successful fan fiction (if you're curious, my opinion was somewhere in between).
Additionally, with the opening of "The Cursed Child" in London, "Harry Potter" has been in the news more and more. Currently, any available tickets for the play are selling on secondary ticketing websites for thousands of pounds apiece, and some of the tickets being sold aren't even real. The highest ticket prices on these websites are above 8,000 pounds, which is over $10,000, certainly an incredibly steep cost, even for "Harry Potter."
The show has, of course, broken box office records; some people have spent hours in line for tickets. However, the original tickets cost less than $200 through the theater itself, and people spending thousands of dollars on their tickets through other websites may find themselves extremely disappointed when the show comes around and their ticket isn't valid.
Nonetheless, all of this just continues to prove that the "Harry Potter" franchise will never go away. The series as a whole (including film sales, book sales and merchandise) has grossed an estimated $24,851,000,000 over the years. So, in summary, Harry Potter will live forever, and he'll always be rich. Oh, and you can buy his childhood home now, too!
