During Tough Times, There Is Something You Must Always Remember

During tough times, there is something you must always remember, you need to keep living and moving. By this, I mean to get up every day and get on with your life. Even if it's the simplest things like waking up, brushing your teeth, and eating breakfast to start your day. Once you develop a solid start to your day, you work on ways to be productive for the remaining hours. Productivity is the key to feeling accomplished and keeping yourself busy.

When I am stressed, upset, or angry, I find it best to keep myself busy to wind down how I am currently feeling. It is the best therapy to do chores, do homework, read a book, watch a movie, or go exercise for a few hours. However, you must always remember that it is not an excuse to bottle in your feelings and avoid the issue(s). It is only a step into the right direction if done correctly and not to ones' advantage.

It is also important to seek guidance and confide in your friends during your times of need. I believe that your truest friends are your backbones and will help lift you up. They are here for a reason and they want to be there for you at all times. By asking for advice or help, it shows that you care about the situation and need to talk it out with someone. You do not bottle in your feelings and you let it out in a healthy way. It is important that your good friends know how you are doing and that you're okay.

Please keep in mind that in order to fully reflect on what is presented in front of you, you should not participate in hobbies that will make you feel worse. For example, partaking in drugs, alcohol, or physical and emotional abuse. This does not solve your problems and will make you feel ten times worse. We all have our bad days but we are trying to make them better. Substance abuse is not the answer and your indenial-ness to face your problems will eventually come back to you. It will also leave you trapped in this evil vortex that can damage your mental state (especially when you hit rock bottom). It is okay to have alone time and want to do something fun every now and then with your friends. I find it best when people are taking time for themselves and becoming their own friend to mature and grow. This way, you move on from a situation and reflect on it, rather than dwell.

With that being said, times will be tough and you will struggle through it all. You must remember that eventually things will be okay and will work itself out. You will feel at peace with yourself and the tears, complaining, and being mad will lessen. You will learn through this journey and why it has to happen. After all, everything does happen for a reason. There's a quote that I live by every single day, "If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we're apart..I'll always be with you." -Winnie the Pooh. Please take care of yourself and don't harm yourself and the people around you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
