A Dunkin' Girl In A Starbucks World

Dunkin' Donuts will always be better than Starbucks.

It’s an age old debate, Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks. For myself, Dunkin' has always been the clear winner. I hate to say it, but no one actually goes to Starbucks unless they’re trying to take an Instagram picture, or pretend they’re a super professional business person. I can’t lie, there are some things I enjoy about Starbucks, but it will never compare to my beloved Dunkin'. Here are some of the most important reasons you should switch from Starbucks to Dunkin'.

1. The Price

The pricing differences between these two is black and white. If you want to pay an absurd amount of money for a small coffee, I'm sorry, Tall, then go to Starbucks. I can get a medium coffee and a breakfast sandwich for less money at Dunkin'. Not to mention Dunkin' Donuts has a daily happy hour; from 3-6 you can get a medium coffee for only 99 cents!

2. The Sizing

What ever happened to small, medium, and large? Ordering a drink at Starbucks is like speaking a different language. There’s like an unnecessary need to sound ~fancy~ when all I really want is a coffee. Seriously what even is a “treinta”?

3. Donuts & Munchkins

Please tell me a time you’ve ever been sad about a co-worker bringing in Dunkin' Donuts during your morning shift. Donuts and coffee go hand in hand, so I don’t even have to argue this point. Starbucks doesn’t even have a donut option, the closest they have is a cake pop… whatever that is.

4. The Food

To be honest with you, I didn’t even know Starbucks had food options. Dunkin' however has endless amounts of options, and you can even turn them into a meal with your coffee. This has to be one of the main reasons I enjoy Dunkin' in the morning. If you’re ever running late you can get breakfast and coffee in less than 5 minutes, and it will taste delicious.

5.Simplicity

Like I said before, ordering at Starbucks is like speaking a different language. It’s a mouthful just to get your order out, how does a cashier even catch everything you say. “Can I get a venti, easy ice, low fat, chai, mocha latte, hold the whip, Frappuccino” Imagine asking someone to make you that… If you’re ordering that much at a coffee shop, I have a hard time believing you are actually there for coffee.

6. Availability

Most Dunkin' locations are 24/7 and have a drive thru. Grabbing coffee doesn’t need to be an all day ordeal for me. I just want to get in and get out which is exactly why Dunkin' is so perfect. Not to mention, going into Starbucks feels like you’re invading someone’s workplace.

7. Baskin Robbins

Probably the best reason to choose Dunkin' Donuts over Starbucks. Not only do they have donuts, but most stores have an attached Baskin Robbins. Donuts and ice cream is an amazing combination, what more could you ask for?

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
