What It's Like Being A Dunkin' Addict

As the semester progresses slowly but surely, college campuses seem to be quickly filling up their garbage cans with empty cups of our primary fuel source: coffee. Growing up, watching our parents and other adults in our lives walking around having their morning cup of coffee or a little afternoon pick-me-up made us think that we would be able to look sophisticated and put together when we started drinking coffee too. Little did we realize that becoming just like these adults meant struggling through four years of college first.

So yes, the stereotype that college kids guzzle coffee is true for many students. Just as anything else in life, people have their preferences. In today's society there are endless options when it comes to drinking coffee. You can make your own at home with instant coffee or a coffee mate, or you can grab it on-the-go at your local favorite. Then, comes the heated debate of whether Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts is better. I am by no means here to diss Starbucks. Their beverages are great; I am personally just one American who truly runs on Dunkin'.

Life as a Dunkin' addict is a curse, but it is also a blessing in disguise.

I can openly and honestly admit that a majority of my bank account has been dedicated to my addiction since I was 14. Before softball practices, on road trips, or even just because I could see the neon sign from a mile away, all were a good enough reason to dish out $2.50 for a medium caramel iced coffee with cream and sugar. But if you are a true addict, you know exactly when the coupons show up in your mail box or when your local Dunkin' has promotions like on-the-go ordering on Flyer's or 76er's home game days.

Now normal coffee drinkers just stop for the occasional Dunkin' just to treat themselves or to be more social. That is where the addict separates from the general public. Whether it's 8 am or 8 pm, if there is a discount on a coffee we make sure we get there and take advantage of it. We manage to plan our lives around when we will be able to run to Dunkin' and get our daily dose of our favorite beverage.

So hopefully someday the coffee scientists of the world will discover a way to either make coffee cheaper or manage to get coffee as an IV drip in order to further enhance and add to the addict lifestyle. Until then, keep running on Dunkin' America and go out and get some coffee because let's be real, you were probably thinking about going right now anyway.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
